Anyone had a problem with taking the Norinco bolt apart for thr first time?I was going to clean mine up today and tried using the tool I got for this purpose,a stoblel unit I got from brownells,But I cannot get anything to move,
The ejector is being compressed etc but cannot get the extractor to move,cannot seem to find the sweet spot or the extractor is frozen in place.might try soaking the bolt in something like liquid wrench etc.ant suggestions
 
Don't take it apart unless you have to.

If you must, do it in a small room where you will be able to find the parts that will be flying about when you release the tension on the spring. Seriously, a small white bathroom with the drains covered and the toilet seat down would make finding the parts easier than in your workshop.

zip lock

allways put bolts in side of zip lock bags before trying to take them apart. this will keep those nasty little parts from moveing to a new postal code. this works on any spring loaded part.:cool:

It's way easier to take apart than put back together. Don't attempt it unless you have a valid reason. I'll lend you my Brownells tool for the cost of postage if you really feel you need to take it apart. PM me if you are interested.

If you have a chance (and can find the parts), replace the bolt ejector & extractor springs with USGI. In my case, I found this yielded a big improvement in ease of assembly/dissassembly, as the Norinco springs can be a bit "firm". I also recommend replacing the firing pin.

what a pain, coming apart no problem, i shot the spring 4 or 5 times trying to put it back together, took about an hour to figure it out

Sounds about right. 10 minutes to take apart, 2 hours to put back together! A good portion of the time spent is on you hands and knees looking for items you shot accross the room.
 
here's what we do:

cut carefully..... 3 coils from your ejector spring and 2 coils from your extractor spring. There is NO NEED to go with usgi springs in your bolt, the chinese ones are just fine..... too long mind you, but just fine.

I put a punch in the vice facing me and slip an empty 308 case over it and use that to push the ejector in while geting the extractor to slip in past it's detent. Oh ya... and i use a large ziploc around the works to catch any fliers. :D

the strobel bolt tool is decent, BUT it is designed for the M1carbine, M1 garand AND the m14 bolt so there is a sweet spot in it's adjustment to make everything go smooth. All in all it is a decent tool but owning one for several years led me to have the whole idea redesigned........

And I pleased to announce that the M14Doctor Bolt tool will be availlable VERY shortly. This is a new, canadian design, robust, simple to operate tool for making regualr bolt maintenance and cleaning a snap. I am just waiting to get the first 100 back from the machinist and will get them on CGN ASAP.

will post pics as soon as they are availlable........ we are talking days to a week.... ;)

Yup... That's what I ended up doing.

Without the mod it was pretty near imposible to re-assemble.
