Bolt fluting

Does anyone know of a gunsmith/machinist here in that can/will spiral flute rifle bolts?

Other than looks, does that serve a purpose?

I had a thread on this about 6 months ago, and concluded that nobody in Canada wants to do spiral fluting. Most smiths will tell you that it weakens structural integrity, not worth it.

I know all the arguments FOR and AGAINST bolt fluting thanks guys, I just want to know if anyone in does it?

Helical milling takes a specially set up mill. Too expensive for the number of jobs it'd be used for.

I think you will have better luck approaching CNC machine shops than gunsmiths.

I have been aproached to do this a couple of times. I won't do it for the price people want to pay. The time it takes to set it up makes it too expensive to do it for one bolt.

You can buy flutted bolt bodies in the states. I am not sure of the legalities of imported one, but their are a few places that sell them for the Rem 700

"...CNC machine shops..." Can't anymore. Takes a Firearms Business Licence and PAL's for anybody handling a firearm.

Always kind of wondered why PGW flutes the bolts on the Twolf. I can see the arguments for the barrel if I squint right, but fluting the bolt seams out right goofy on a rifle that heavy.

I CAN do it but won't. Setting up the mill to do 1 bolt is not worth the money people will spend AND I don't need the liability issues.
To get the effects of the fluted bolt , all you need to do is drop some crap into the action, it will bind up just like a fluted bolt will.
