BOLT question. HELP

Hi guys, some info if you will. Bought a brand new Daniel Defense, inspected it, never fired, bolt looks like this. Is that normal ? If so, then so be it, DD quality is not what i thought it would be and maybe i should've gone with a COLT instead, wouldve been a hell of a lot cheaper... Emailed pics to the dealer and apparently, this is normal carbon fouling as DD test fires their guns, which is fine, but this is a brand new clean bolt (CLP and a toothbrush).

Normal - Yay/nay ?





 
Can you scrape it off with a small knife? I'm not sure if your colour balance is off, or if the stuff you're talking about really is orange, but carbon should be black.
 
Certainly looks like copper to me. Maybe the test rounds got some copper stripped from the jacket by some protruding steel left by the drilling of the gas port (happens quite often, a few rounds and it's gone), and the copper got vaporized onto the bolt tail.
 
The bolt on my DD M4V5 (first batch to ever come into Canada) looked unfired. No carbon on it and solid black nitride finish. I wouldn't loose too much sleep if all was in good shape.
 
Rifle overall is fine and I know it wont affect function. I think i just was expecting too much especially at the price these rifles go for, my first DD and DI gun. Part of their marketing was "Find out what makes a DDM4 much more than just another black rifle" not sure i'll buy another or just go COLT and save some cash. :)
 
Thanks Jerry. Maybe i can contact DD directly and see what they say. Dealer said it looks normal ? I know they test fire the guns which is good, but how many rounds do they test fire ???

I'm not sure how many rounds they fire but I can assure you that is not the norm for DD. Mine was clean and the finish was immaculate. If the retailer wont do anything take it to the manufacturer. You pay top $ for DD you should get a top notch product and nothing less
 
This is what a brand new dd bolt looks like: (its my spare bolt in my range bag in case something goes wrong with one of my ars)

Thanks Mike!! Ok, so the stem looks the same. Might not be as bad as i thought then. Just that weird copper color on it. Tried to get it off with some KG12, no luck. Would that much copper come off the round and onto the bolt ??

i dunno I've never seen that, maybe gunner can chime in, lord knows he's shot enough rounds.
do you have a bolt scraper tool with a copper solvent, might do the trick, or if the AR cycles fine just let it be. Ive learned the hard way that sometimes even if it looks funky weird, just leaving it be is best
