Bond’s back to PPK….

Hey, shouldn't he be using the Beretta that M will eventually will take away in the beginning of Dr. No?

The reason that Q is called Major Boothroyd is that Fleming was urged to change the Beretta to the Walther by a Glaswegian firearms expert called Geoffrey Boothroyd. Boothroyd used to work for ICI in their ammunition division.

MAJOR BOOTHROYD: Walther PPK 7.65 mil with a delivery like a brick through a plate-glass window. Takes a Brausch silencer with very little reduction in muzzle velocity — the American CIA swear by them.

I have issues about this, because I was reading/watching Bond long before I owned firearms, and this always threw me for a loop. Most authors (Fleming and Hammet included) would screw-up and assume that the 7.65mm/.32 ACP was similar to the Mauser pistol's 7.63mm round. This, of course, was not the case - the Mauser cartridge was far stronger.

I saw it with a lady friend, friday night and I was very disappointed. She thought the gun handling was great, until I took her to the range Saturday afternoon.

Sorry guys , but all this banter about what pistols were used in the last bond movie quite frankly seems NERDY to me. It's just a movie.

Looks like uncirculated 1$ and 2$ Canadian notes inserted in the passport, that pic must have been taken awhile ago .... Then again there are new euros and US 10$ bills in there too ... Holy anachronism batman !

Sad:(

Sounds like a Lib - they can afford to be inconsistent when it pays.

Daniel Craig as James Bond: Anti-Gun but Pro Womanizer?
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

By Frederick Meekins

It has been reported that Daniel Craig, the actor slated to assume the role of James Bond, does not like guns.

And why do we need to know or even care about this? Frankly, those that are going to see the new James Bond movie are going to see the exploits of the famed super spy and are not going to see the film in order to support the radical politics of some messily actor few have even heard of before now.

James Earl Jones doesn’t wear a black cape, a space helmet, or breathe through a respirator either. I doubt Anthony Hopkins was really all that much into cannibalism. That’s why it’s called acting.

Since Mr. Craig has spoken out against 007’s propensity towards violence but not the spy’s tendency towards promiscuity, does that mean he has no problem with womanizing? Shouldn’t he be as uncomfortable being around such lustfully named dames as Pussie Galore, Honey Ryder, and Molly Warmflesh?

If firearms bother Craig that much, perhaps he should stand by his principles and forego his place in cinematic history.

Just because James Bond uses a gun in his line of work does not necessarily mean the character is some kind of gun nut.

It’s kind of a job requirement.

Compromise and appeals to universal brotherhood hardly work with scoundrels such as Scaramanga, Ernst Blofeld, or Oddjob. Thankfully, despite their outlandish plots and gadgets, the Bond films are realistic enough to realize girlie men are not going to save the day with wimpy protestations in favor of disarmament and pacifism.

Yep.... sounds like a lib ####### to me!

And the trigger is kept back like that for what reason? ;)

Honestly, I've never even seen a real PPK, let alone fondled and/or fired one (it's one of those things of my "things to do before I die" list) ... I HAVE however handled one P-08 .... Couldn't read German so I had no clue if the safety was on or off when I proceeded to attempt to PROVE the firearm safe (turns out it was on, and I kinda forced things, which pissed off the owner to no end since I effectively jammed his gun pretty tight, oops ).

I guess the trigger is back since the gun was dry-fired to put the hammer down and therefore is held in the "back" position until the trigger mechanism is reset).

Thankfully, despite their outlandish plots and gadgets, the Bond films are realistic enough to realize girlie men are not going to save the day with wimpy protestations in favor of disarmament and pacifism.

Amen to that.

It means that the safety was engaged when the hammer was pulled back ( in this case a round was cycled in the chamber). The safety lever serves to put on/off the safety and also to lower down the hammer safely on a live round without hitting the firing pin. Quicker and safer than lowering hammer with thumb!;)

No gadgets, then it ain't Bond!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I've been a Bond fan for years, never missed a matinee with Roger Moore when I was growing up. i didn't discover Connery Until the 80ty's, he is Bond.
I think the producers are trying to get a younger crowd interested in Bond, so they changed it to a Bourne like movie.
I'm sorry it just isn't the Bond that I like, we need Q back!!!!

I loved Casino Royale. I wasn't a bond fan before seeing Casino Royale but I've since read all the books and know the trivia. Quantum Of Solace was a big let down, story was terrible, in fact there barely was a story and going back to the PPK was silly in my opinon, if they wanted continuity they should have had the Beretta in Casino Royale and M should have been a man. Keep in mind Brosnan refers to Denchs predecessor in Goldeneye.

but, whatever. I'm hoping the WW2 film featuring Craig will be really great this winter.

P99 was better suited for this day and age. If the bond movies were retro, I would understand the whole ppk concept. Both pistols are Walther so it is not like he has moved to a different brand. That would be like James Bond drinking a different vodka brand. Mind you the Aston Martin DB5 was a cool car back in the 60s. The Aston Martin V12 Vanquish, updated for todays Bond. The P99 suits todays bond. Apparently the Director had a different opinion.

Ok This just in. I was taking to buddy that just finished watching the movie. He noted that Bond does use the p99, as well as the ppk.

Anyone else see the p99?

I have had a few PPKs, still have a nice one in 380, just because. Horrible DA triggers, decent SA, and quite an accurate little gun. I have a Colt 1903 in the same caliber that shoots rings around that Walther though. I'll still keep it until I'm dead, it is a cool gun, and everyone wants to play with it when you take it to the range.

Regarding the jammed P08 story, even if you are trying to do the right thing, if you don't actually know how ASK! Nothing will piss off a gunowner faster then having some hamfisted person bugger up one of his prized possessions trying to keep the safety nazis happy. - dan
