"bone collector" triumph vs. triumph

Last edited:
I have the standard Triumph. If I remember correctly, the Bone Collector version has a shorter stock. But there isn't a ton of difference beyond what jethunter mentioned. My Triumph shoots very, very well using Blackhorn 209. I would highly recommend it. If you have any questions, just let me know.

Edit: to answer your question, I wouldn't say the extra money is worth it, unless you like the look.

datoews,
Have you had the opportinity to try shooting both models? Just wondering if the recoil reduction is all it is made out to be. How is the trigger and how easy is it to reload after your first shot?
Thanks!

I have not had a chance to use the Bone Collector version, I'm afraid. A friend of mine, who is a much smaller build that I am, wanted one for the shorter stock, but they're hard to find in Winnipeg these days, and he hasn't picked one up yet. And there isn't a separate deer tag for muzzle anymore, so he doesn't have the incentive.

The recoil has never bothered me all that much, and I'm a firm believer of avoiding unnecessary recoil in firearms for accuracy sake. The standard stock and recoil pad do their job. Follow up shots do take a little while for me, simply because I find the most accurate sabot/bullet combo for my particular firearm is pretty tight, and takes some effort to load. But with other sabots, I haven't had those issues, and the operation is quick enough. Whether its the first shot or tenth at the range, with Blackhorn I haven't noticed any increased difficulties loading after each shot. It stays clean. I have hunted with the triumph, but so far have never had a shot opportunity with it, so I can only report on how it works in range conditions.

The trigger is good, not great. It was a little gritty out of the box, but that went away after a day at the range. Mine was a tad heavy out of the box. But the important thing is, it's reliable and consistent. I get holes touching at 200 yards. I have a Nikon Omega scope on it, for what that's worth.

For the price, I think it's a fantastic firearm. If you're a smaller build, or more likely to be sensitive to recoil, you would probably want the Bone Collector. But recoil control aside, I don't see it giving you any advantage that would be any difference in the field. If I do my part, the deer will fall every time with the Triumph. Get the standard one, save the extra money from the Bone Collector and get another toy for your kit instead.
