Booked Another African Hunt

Sheep......This one will be in SA again..........two areas, first will be the Kalahari (lion and gemsbok and 50/50 on a kudu) right on the Bot border near Namibia and the second area for Kudu and rest will be on a huge cattle ranch in Kwa-Zulu Natal.

BUM.......mountain zebra have been introduced all over SA and have flourished in a lot of areas, to the point of being free range in some of the rougher, rockier areas of SA.

Ah cool...some lofty goals.....should be a great hunt.

Looks like I was wrong. RSA outfitters quoting in Canadian dollars? Nice deal.

Not so lofty Sheep, a couple upgrades and fill a couple holes and after busting Mr Fuzzy I have decided he would look much better with a female by his side in my trophy room. I have found the way to make these lofty goals into reality is to take what the PH recommends for days and add several. This guy suggested 14 days so I booked 20 days, remember I am not a lucky SOB and I work long and hard for every good animal I have, so this is my solution.

If I had a double, I'd be taking it for the lion. That's not necessarily because I think it's the best, just that its Africa and if you don't use it there where will you use it? For the main rifle, it won't matter much. the 300 is an old friend, you know it will work and you know your 340 will also work. It just comes down to whatever you want to do. Do you use the friends or try the new ones?

I sort of accidently became a .375 for all plains game guy, and don't like to mess with a lucky streak. Have you done a three seven five only trip?

Yes it takes some serious commitment

What was the size of that lovely Nyala, am booked myself for Nyala in Kwa Zulu Natal next march, very much looking forward, and east side of Krueger for Buff, would love to go for Nyala up in the Thabazimbi area but there definitely smaller than those in Kwa Zulu Natal, pretty ballsy on the PH saying a guaranteed 60 inch kudu and would hold him to his side of the bargain, i had to stretch pretty far for 50

My Merkel is a .470 NE, a little excessive for the critter list, but would be fun on the lion.

More than welcome to the .375 version of your Merkel, if you wanted to pack a pair of doubles as suggested by hoyt. I imagjne departing without a good bolt gun would be outside the possibilities though, you have a lovely selection to choose from, the trouble with good options...

Actually several Dogleg, killed everything with 270 gn TSXs.....duiker to hippo.

JHC...........that Nyala is just a hair shy of 31"...........my PH made me turn down a 28 and a 29............good thing I got this one, is all I got to say!!!! As far as the 60" Kudu goes, like I said he was kinda running his mouth off so I called him on it and he took the challenge, if he can't find me a 60" kudu I don't pay for the days we hunt them and if he tells me to shoot one and it doesn't make the 60" he's free and I still get to keep him. I told him I'd give him 1/2" slack, so anything over 59 1/2" works for me. He is also the owner, head PH and executive director of the company, so I trust that he can make these kind of deals.

Angus.....my eyes are a lot older than yours, I'm afraid I need glass to take much beyond 100 mtrs. However I do believe you said you had mounts for that sweetie didn't you? I would never borrow a rifle and risk losing it, like certainly can happen when travelling to Africa......but I may buy one.............

Forget about the 9.3-300 or 340 or anything like that. You might lose your ammo, and you need to be able to resupply at the local hardware store.

So I guess I better take "The Real King, Holland &Holland's .375 Belted Magnum" and a 30-06, eh Gate?:dancingbanana::dancingbanana::dancingbanana::dancingbanana:
It actually may surprise you what is on the shelves in Jo'burg and Pretoria. Besides I never worry about such details, there is always guns in camp and lots of ammo. I decided long ago that I'm there for the hunt and the culture and what rifle I use is of little concern. It is always nice to use one's own rifles but much like a good pool shot, I can accomplish the task at hand with pretty much any rifle that is put in my hands.
