Boolit casting questions

Hi guys

1) What does the numbered punch do ?

2) What do you use to size your boolit and crimp a gas check on, is it a special press ?

Im assuming you’re referring to the top punches on lube sizers.
What the top punch does is push the bullet through the sizing die.
There are several ways to size a bullet, Lee makes push through sizing kits that you can mount on your single stage press or there are also dedicated presses for sizing and applying lube in the grease grooves of a bullet.
The gas check is crimped or even sorta swaged onto the shank of the bullet as it passes through the sizing die.
Here are two you tube videos, one showing the push through method and the other with a dedicated lube sizer.
There are several different types and brands of dedicated lube sizers.

or you can get the RCBS lamII it's one of the better ones, oh and get a lyman cast bullet handbook the 3rd one is better than the new one.all your answers and more are in there. a must for all cast'rs
