Took some 44's and 357 Max revolvers out this week.

The original Dirty Harry revolver, a 29-2 with the 6.5 inch barrel.

Another 29-2, 4 inch blued. S&W finger groove combat grips.

Yet another 29-2, but in nickle plated for BBQ 's and formal occasions. Smooth S&W presentation grips.

Ruger Super Blackhawk. 4 5/8 inch barrel. Faux ivory grips.

First year Dan Wesson 44V. 6 inch barrel. French Grey finish they used on the first 500 revolvers built.
They called it satin blue.

Another DW, this one an 8 inch 357 Maximum with slotted shroud.

Another 357 Max. A Ruger Super Blackhawk with a 10.5 inch barrel.

Used to use the DW's and the Ruger Max for silhouette shooting back when that was a thing. Along with a few others, of course. - dan

Good coverage. I have to agree about the 4" 29. I had my 4.2" 629 out today. While no where near as nice as those factory woods on yours, I put the X frame Hogue grip on mine and was surprised how comfortable it was with full magnum loads.

Always wanted that exact DW357 max since reading the magazine articles in the 80s. I would have bought one before the ban but passed because I couldn't find ammo. Should have just bought it and worried about ammo or reloading later.

I have a 5" 629 and the factory rubber grip was battering the sh1t out of my hand when shooting full loads. Like bad, like, "this isn't fun anymore" type of hurt, so I too went with a Hogue hardwood stock and the difference is amazing. While I still don't shoot full power .44 mag all day, it's my wallet that is the limiting factor, not my pain threshold.

I could have sold the rubber grip, but I threw it in the trash. I wouldn't subject another to that kind of punishment.

Yes the full woods spread the recoil over a larger surface area which helps.

The X-frame Hogue grips are full wrap-around rubber so you don't get the bite of that exposed backstrap. The new S&W rubber grips are also full wrap-around and more comfortable than the older Hogue rubbers.

Great collection! I was hoping to get a 629 before the ban landed. But I was also trying to get a few others that were actually available in the days/weeks leading up to. I'll just have to live vicariously through these posts until we can effect change.

I was super fortunate to score one out of my local GS before the ban came on.

My S&W wheelguns generally wear Pachmayrs for shooting; the factory woods stay in the box for display only.

My 629 is a 3 inch snubby. Pics are in one of my other range day pics threads. - dan

I had a nickel plated Model 57 6" .41 Magnum that did the same to me. Factory Remington full magnum load was brutal. I tried Pachmayrs and it was a improvement but still too much for my girly hands, so it went down the road.

It was the only S&W I ever owned which was just beginning to show a bit of a timing issue probably due to the Magnum loads as compared to my Colt Detective Specials which both had timing issues.

BTW never had a timing issue with a Ruger revolver.

I'm a truck mechanic, no girly hands here...full house magnum rounds are no joke.

Would have loved a 3" 29 or 629.

Were 29s or 629s ever issued with round butts?

I believe all the 3" models were. The 29/629 Classic DX came with both the round butt wood combat grip and the Hogue rubber round-to-square conversion grip. The 7.5" Magna Classic only came with the round butt wood combat grip.
