I got out with my buddy for pheasants with the new generation of dogs. Gunner my buddy's dog is a year old and Boone on the right is 18 months. They did remarkably well with Gunner following Boone's lead at first then hunting independently. They know each other well and have spent lots of time playing and training together.

That is great.
As the years go by I do feel the yearning to have a bird dog in my life.
Got to hunt with Bland and his dog Lucy for grouse a few times and it sure is fun seeing the dog in action.
Heading up to see him next week.

I only hunt birds to see my dog work. I'm much happier seeing my dog do a great find and point on a hen then me flushing and killing a rooster when he is hunting off to the side.
 
Looks like you had a great day. It's always very nice to see a young dog doing well. I'll be taking my 7 month old Lab, also named Boone to camp next weekend for his first taste of hunting. He's been doing well in training but has had very little contact with birds.
 
Went out today and did well. The boys especially Gunner got rattled by a large group of hens that flushed off to the side and it took some specific communication to settle them down to work normally, basically calming them down to where their IQ's hit double digits. After that they did some good work with Boone trailing a running rooster for 200 yards before it stopped and he got s good point and luckily it ran into my shot string.
