Bore sighters?

I just got a bore sighter and I have asked a few different people about them and some say they don't work and others say they work great! Can you guys give me a few opinions on this? and when you center the crosshairs and grid in the bore sighter it should hit paper right??? thanks for easing my mind.

There only for geting on the paper and you should pratice with them. A good hint if you are setting up for a right test shoot right if you are setting up for a lefty test shoot lefty.

Record where the scope's cross hairs lie on the bore-sighter grid with your sighted in rifle. From time to time, the rifle's zero can be verified against the bore sighter grid. If the scope is removed from the rifle, when you replace it, you can easily bring it back to it's original sighting without a trip to the range. If you change scopes, you can adjust the new scope to have the same point-of-impact as the old scope. If you have concerns about the accuracy or repeatability of the scope adjustments - they can be verified against the grid. All in all, a bore-sighter is a very usefull tool.

Thanks Boomer, so I buy a sighted riffle with the base's and rings on it ( no scope seller removed it) ..I could add my scope and it should have pretty much the same bullet impact on target?

huh?-that last comment makes no sense - you won't find a "sighted" rifle- they just stick the irons on and that's it- and maybe one shot to verify the thing works- it's up to the purchaser to set the sights for himself - the reason for this is that there's a myraid of both ammunition and shooters out there- the closest you may come is to get a smith to install the bases and rings and you'll have to do the scoping yourself- what boomer was talking about was taking a scope that was already verified for that rifle, removing it for whatever reason, and sticking it back on- you can use the boresighter to verify that the mounting /dismounting did not disturb the zero- it often does- basically, the only way you're going to get that scope tuned to your rifle is to go shoot it with whatever ammo you intend to use-
