Help me out guys. I've been trying to find answers all day.

Trying to bore sight my Sig Cross at 25 yards but max out the elevation before the reticle is high enough. I've attached an image to help explain what's going on. The measurement from the center of the bore to the center of the scope tube is 2.5". So I printed out a target and transferred that measurement to the target. From the bullseye to the red horizontal line is 2.5" (the image is not to scale FYI).

The idea is to align the bullseye with the bore (by eye) and then align the reticle with where the red line intersects the vertical line. But I run out of elevation! The blue circle indicates approximately where my reticle is positioned when I run out of elevation.

Also - before attempting to bore sight, I returned the scope to optical zero. I should have 28 MOA in adjustments in all 4 directions.

Any help would be much appreciated.

When you say the scope has 28MOA vert from center, is that what the scope 'Specs" say - "from Center" ? I've never seen a spec say that, but I haven't read all scope specs. I've only seen "Adjustment = xxMOA" OR "xxMOA avail" OR "TOTAL ADJ". What scope is it? And a 20MOA 'integrated rail' might not allow you to zero at 25 anyway. I went thru a similar thing with a scope & a 30MOA rail - turns out I mis-read the specs and the scope only had 40-MOA TOTAL adj, not 40 Up & Down. My solution was to keep the 30-MOA rail and buy Burris ETR ring set to remove 10-MOA from the lift. Even so, I have to reduce magnification to 20x from 34x to get a 100 target view on the FFP scope.

PS - I've not had much accuracy with 'bore sighting by eye' beyond 'getting on paper' if it's a large piece of paper. I have a low-cost 'laser bore sighting tool' like at Cab/BP for about $75 or so. I use it in the evenings in my backyard, so my neighbors don't get po'd and I can still see the target and the laser dot on the target visually.

I bought the setup used. The scope is a cheap Cabelas Covenant Tactical 6-24x50 FFP. I don't have the specs (and couldn't find them online) so counted clicks on elevation and windage turrets. Both had 228 clicks. 1 click = 1/4 MOA so 4 clicks = 1 MOA so 228 / 4 = 57 MOA Total Elevation/Windage adjustment.

Trying to get it close enough to hit paper without shooting any bullets.
That's a bad plan. If you were to actually align the bore with the scope reticle at 25 yards, you probably wouldn't even hit the paper at 100 yards - you'd be high. It's also not as precise as doing the bore alignment at 100 yards.

Like the guy above said, I do this at 100 meters and am able to hit the large paper first shot.

yeah, as others have said. Dont worry about what it "looks" like visually at 25y.

Many of the lower end scopes have limited Elev/Wind adjustment, and the only rifles ive seen that had that problem were 22lr.

Bore sight and fire at 100y/m. Or if new, start at 50m then move to 100m.

I appreciate this response. Thank you. I’ll give up on the 25 yard idea and shoot at 100 instead. Wish me luck. :)
