I'm new to the gun scene and am interested in good products to keep my new gat working good and looking good. I have a 9mm Sig and am wondering what experiences people here have had with the boresnake by hoppes? Is it good to use this product or should i stick with the traditional way of cleaning, with a rod and patch. Any help on this topic would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Velocity

Boresnakes work just fine for most regular cleanings. The rod, patches and brush should be broken out every so often to get out anything that the snake leaves behind though.

I run a Bore Snake through my guns' barrels immediately before packing up at the range while the guns are still warm...I find that it makes cleaning the bore properly later on a much easier task.

Please don;t ever use that word again.

I have a boresnake for every caliber I own. very handy tool. but nothing beats a proper cleaning.

I use bore snakes before I leave the range as stated previously, and for a final finish after a rigorous cleaning. I have found if you have any leading in the bore the bore snake will not touch it. For serious lead problems I use a conventional copper/bronze brush wrapped with a bunch of brass scour pad (found in the cleaning section of the grocery store). The most serious lead problem can be cured with 10 passes of the brush. Also it makes your brushes last darn near forever because you just have wrap a few more turns down when the brush wears down.

I think the bore snake is a very good tool. Good for a quick cleaning after each range session.

I would recommend Butch's Bore Shine for the thorough cleanings. It stinks, but it works like a damn.
