Bore snake stuck in AR-15 barrel

Has it occurred to you that your friend is simply proof of darwin's theory and as such doesn't actually deserve to own a gun?:)

seriously, with half the snake hanging in the barrel i don't see how you can push it back out with a rod. ditto a 'red hot welding rod' melting two feet of nylon bore snake inside the barrel could be a little hard to clean.

from a medical viewpoint, try a tissue forceps...like a regular forceps but with a little tooth at the end...and pull it back out

good luck,

jl

You could always put another barrel on it . But realistically JL 's idea is good and has the best chance of working as does the long dry wall screw

The long dry wall screw does work. I have done it in a snake that had been pulled so hard into the chamber that the string broke off back from the muzzle. It will take you all of 2 minutes to get it out!

Thr drywall screw sounds like a good idea, but those suckers are wicked tensile and will snap easily, so don't let them bend.

Pull straight up (as if you have any choice which way you have to pull he,he)

How about crochette needles, (with the little hooks on the end), don't know what they're supposed to be used for but there great for fishing the pubies out of the clogged shower drain.

if you know someone into black powder, get a stuck ball remover, made out of BRASS, and go at it from the back end. borrow a rod, that the screw will fit, and it should be fairly simple

Holy cow, in a week or two he'll have the whole damn hardware store stuck in his barrel.

What about packing the barreled upper in dry ice? It might shrink the obsruction enough to allow it to get pounded out. Good luck.

a simple preventative solution I've started doing is simply tying a fine, but tough string to the loop so that if it ever does get stuck i can pull it in either direction.
I've found braided spider wire (fishing line) is more thanfine enough, and one strand can have a 40 lb pull or more. hopefully I don't ever have to find out first hand if it's tough enough, but i can't imagine it wouldn't be.
Another thing I've concluded about bore snakes is that they're more of a final finish type tool, i usually pull my bore through with traditional patches a couple times before braken out the snake.

die standing and go down swingin

I just wanted to thank everybody for their advice. It's the long screw through the chamber that did it. I had to pull hard at first, but the patch came a bit at a time, and then the whole bore snake. Had to put the screw five time in there to get it all out.

So thanks a lot, you made a good guy much happier!
