Bore Snake...

Run your snake through a few times then run a clean patch through on a jag with a rod and you will see how much crud it misses.
 
Just to make sure no one gets excited, i'm not giving up my old hoppes, patch, and brush... Just wanted to give something else a try :) I think it will be great for a little Ruger 22/45.

I don't give up on Hoppes or oil either...put them in the snake. The only thing you won't need are patches (brush is in the snake as well).
 
I don't bother for my pistol, but that's mostly because I can have the M&P 9 disassembled and the barrel sitting separate on the bench within 30 seconds. No need.

My rifles, though? I snagged a snake for them a while back, and it's been working really well. The old rod and patches will always have a place, but I'm liking the snake.
