Hello,

I recently purchased my first shotgun - a 12 gauge break action H&R Pardner from Cabelas. ( YAY!) Naturally as an aspiring gun nut I am excited to shoot clean and repeat my new firearm. I went down to the local gun shop today and was recommended to get a bore snake rather than a cleaning rod with patches. Having no experience I went with the recommendations of the guy working there.

So I cleaned the gun first thing to remove the factory grease and then lightly lubed the action with Hoppes #9. After blasting about 25 or 30 shots I figured my shoulder was sore enough and i cleaned it put it away.

My question is about oiling the inside of the barrel for storage.
My method was to run the snake through a couple times to clean it then I oiled the end of the snake up real good and ran it through one more time. This seemed to apply an even coat all through, at leas the two ends were oiled as much as I could tell by sticking my finger in there.

How do you oil the insides? Should I have gotten a rod with patch?

After doing this I realized that I would need to clean the snake before use again or else I wouldn't be able to remove the oil before firing it again.

BTW I recommend a 12 gauge for sheer awesomeness power. :D
