Figured with the transfer fee gone, I'd buy myself s new piece to #### around with. Want something cheap, looks like Norinco from marstar.
Narrowed it down to a couple.

Got 'em both. The sites are a little rough, reliablity and accuracy are ok. Great little blasters, lots of fun to shoot. Good plinking value for the money.

Alot seemed to have responded with the 3rd choice. I wonder how many actually own the 54-1. Mine is great. Shoots reliably, over and over again. It's a fun gun.

Yeah, from what I have read about the T33 they are very rugged and reliable, although not impressivly accurate. Marstar seems to have the Type 54 in stock, without the addition of the frame safety. http://www.marstar.ca/Norinco/Type-54-1.htm I called to confirm and they do not have the frame mounted safety.
I'm a little more interested in this one as it's more along the lines of the original design. I don't like safeties on handguns anways.

Sparky posted a thread here somewhere about his tok. Got it at Lever in BC, was significantly cheaper than Marstar with the spare 9mm barrel (including the lynch pin) several mags, and a crate of 7.62 ammo.

I remember reading that. Don't want to commit to that much coin in one shot right now though.......
If I get the Tok, I'll order the 9mm barrel and mag from Lever for $79. Got lots of 9mm laying around. I can drive to Marstar and save the $30 on shipping when I decide to get ammo.

I have a M93 "Sportsman" (Woodsman copy). I like it. It is well worth the $150. Not as nice as the real Woodsman, but for the price it is a great deal. I dont own a Tokarev copy, but I have fired one (7.62x25) and it is also a bunch of fun. If you can, get both, but personally, even though I have the .22, I think I'd get the type 54, since you can also get a 9mm barrel for it, if you can only get one of the two. Of course, the 9mm barrel alone is only $40 or so less than the whole .22, so you should be able to justify both. ;)

Damn. I have the one with the frame mounted safety. Maybe I need a second Tok. :)

Yeah, I asked John about it and the frame safety models were meant for the US market. Can't have a pistol there without some sort of safety. These are new manufactured, and buy the looks of the one in the pic, made in 1999.....

I'd say save your cash for a few more paydays then buy something nicer than a Norinco. If you want a cool little gun from Marstar, buy all the parts for a Walther PPK and order in a 106mm barrel. It probably won't run you much more then $500 for everything. 9mm short/.380auto is relatively cheap ammo too.

I'm no pistol guy, but that woodsman thing looks neat. Cheap to feed.

I also gotta say, that Norinco 1911 a1 or 1a whatever it is, looks like a good deal. I'm also looking for a plinker or a boomer.

Well I bit the bullet. Got the Tokarev Type 54. Received it yesterday. Fit and exterior finish are excellent. No play at all in the slide, and all exterior surfaces are nicely polished and deburred, dark matte blue, almost black, and very even. Inside finish is a whole different story but that doesn't really matter though. Trigger pull is actually really nice. All in all for $200 I was expecting to be slightly dissapointed, but turns out I'm extremly pleased with this little pistol, way, way, better than I was expecting. I'll shoot it this weekend and let you know how it goes. I'll get some pics up in the next couple of days.

Hitzy,

Good call. Sounds like you pistol is a match for mine in terms of fit, finish and trigger pull. Post pics!

Did you get the 9mm barrel too?

Yeah, ordered it from Lever though. $79 and it comes with the link and pin installed AND a 9mm mag with extended finger baseplate. I want to get more of these 9mm mags, I like the extended base plate. Wouldn't mind a set of those wrap around grips too.
The owners manual made me laugh for about an hour. Horrible english translation from chinese. Some that I remember:
"Never run and jump a hurdle race with a loaded pistol"
"Never shoot pistol under drunk or anestesia"
"To shoot firearm, trigger firearm"
"Never point gun at face as it is always loaded"
