Hi there folks,

Thanks so much for all your help in the last "which Boris Bad Guy do you like best?" thread! I've been working on v3 and was hoping to get your thoughts again. Which do you like best, and why?

The previous versions of Boris have had rectangular figure 11 styled scoring zones. Boris v3 is intended to be more along the lines of a Figure 12, or a US military type F. The scoring zone will be an 11 to 12 inch diameter circle, with a 5.5 to 6 inch vbull in the middle.

For those who have not seen the other threads, I'm designing and making a series of printed-then-die-cut life sized cardboard targets. I'm going to use them as the official targetry for an updated version of an online postal league I'm hoping to set up in time for summer - the Online BattleRifle League. This is Boris v1:

I should have Boris v4 (IED Boris!) ready to poll pretty soon...:)

Many thanks for all your help!

Cheers,

Brobee

I voted B because I will be catching him by surprise!

However A or B are best, as they have the White space below to add some Shoot&See stickies if you wanted to.

B is distracted ? I thought he was using his sights where A looks more rambo just gunning.
If that's the case, not sure I care for B.

Can't seems to decide between A and C. They both have their merits.
The grenades in C are kind of random and might be lost at a distance blending in with the sandbag.
However, Is A over a wall ? cause C visually makes more sense to me as a proper MG position.
A is more symmetrical tho'.

I don't know, I think I'm leaning towards A.

Here's what they would look like at range

I'm kinda thinking the symmetry of A seems to work the best...

Agreed, i'm starting to think that A looks a little better at distance. B still wouldn't be bad, however C still is my least fav.

As I write this, Option C above has the most votes. This surprised me, as it was my initial drawing and the asymmetry of it bugged me enough to try and address it. Another thing that bugged me was that the highly stylized mouth was somewhat obscured, taking something away from how well it works as a high contrast aiming point in the other versions of Boris. What I liked about it was the aspect ratio of the gun (which unfortunately drives the asymmetry of the rest of the body posture). Additionally, it seems so much more believable when Boris appears to actually use the sights of the gun, something that gets sacrificed as soon as I try to prevent obscuring Boris's facial features or when the angle of the gun departs too drastically from the perspective of the camera. Additionally, aligning the muzzle of the gun more towards the camera comes at the cost of Boris appearing to be more behind the gun, and more behind the cover...which makes less to shoot at. Imagine that....cover!

Anyway....all this to say that after seeing feedback-to-date this afternoon, I put a bit of work in this evening to make another attempt, from a more straight-on perspective. The illustration on the top is a re-iteration of option B in the poll, and the image on the bottom is tonight's effort. In the new illustration I like the detail on the M249 better, as well as the perspective that Boris is actually using the sights. I'm not as happy with how the line of the ammo belt turned out (the top one appears more dynamic to my eye), and the scoring zone is less than ideal as to center on the mouth puts the bottom of the 12 inch scoring zone in the cover.

Thoughts?

I'm all for B. The lack of symmetry makes it more realistic and difficult for holdovers etc. It also offers a smaller effective hit area while still portraying a more realistic pose.
