Guys / gals,

Is it still possible to borrow a pistol? Obviously both parties have valid RPAL, I think at one time the reg cert was required from loaner and a temp ATT necessary for borrower. Will the CFO still issue a temp ATT with the handgun freeze in place? Is this still possible?

I haven't done it but it should be the same as it was before the freeze. Lending is not transferring, and there was no changes to the rules for lending as far as I know.

Your automatic ATT probably only covers guns registered to you (that's the case with mine) so yes, you'll likely need an ATT for it, and yes you'll need to be in possession of the registration certificate to transport it. Seems you already have a good grasp of what's required, so next step is to call the CFP I think?

Authorized Lending

Marginal note:Authorization to lend

33 Subject to section 34, a person may lend a firearm only if

  • (a) the person
    • (i) has reasonable grounds to believe that the borrower holds a licence authorizing the borrower to possess that kind of firearm, and
    • (ii) in the case of a prohibited firearm or a restricted firearm, lends the registration certificate for it to the borrower; or
  • (b) the borrower uses the firearm under the direct and immediate supervision of the person in the same manner in which the person may lawfully use it.

Yes, lending is possible still. I don’t know what prov you’re in but the bc cfo will set up the paperwork for 6 month periods max. Or at least that was the case when I set it up a year or two back, post freeze.

Give your cfo a call and they can run through the steps, the person that owns the pistol has to initiate it and the person lending also has a phone call with the cfo.
