BOSS System Over-rated?

The idea of reducing recoil so you can go deaf, and kill an animal no-deader than a cartridge you could handle on it's own could, makes no sense. If the retarding qualities of the semi-auto action doesn't tame the cartridge enough, step down a caliber. 7mm-08's with 140gr TSX's kill elk out to 400yds just as well as 300 Win. Mag's shooting 180 Partitions. I've seen it a few times with me own eyes......
And yes, the BOSS is a silly idea. Buy firecrackers if you want to waste money to make more noise.

I like the BOSS. I have it on my 7mm WSM. I phoned Browning to get the sweet spot for 140 grain Winchester BST. It wasn't listed on their site. The thing can get 2 out of three bullets touching at 100 yards. I don't reload so this works for me. Just my 2 cents!

I have an A-Bolt II Stainless Stalker w/ BOSS in .300WSM and agree that it is great to fine tune factory loads. It is less usefull with respect to hand loads.

I do like using the break attachment at the range with ear protection...but it is crazy load to the point of being obnoxious to others so one needs to consider the situation when others are present. With the CR attachement, it is no louder than a conventional barrel but does also come with more recoil. I'm fine with shooting either, in the field or off the bench, in this caliber but to each their own.

When hunting, I now always fit the CR attachment simply because of the noise. I shot my ported (break) attachment out hunting but once and will never do it again...f**cking loud...my ears rang for easily an hour. I generally hunt with ear protection around my neck but one doesn't always have time to put it on prior to taking a shot. If I am in a circumstance where I can protect my ears when hunting, regardless of which BOSS fitting I have attached, I always do.
