Both eyes open?

Both eyes open for trap. I'm not aware of any double vision. I'm looking at the clay, not the gun, so it seems very natural to shoot with both eyes.

For handgun and rifle I use only the dominant eye.

Thanks for all the replies. I'm doing two sessions of 25 gun mounts a day keeping both eyes open and it seems that the incidence of double vision is decreasing with practice. When I'm looking at the target I don't have double vision, but if I don't get a perfect gun mount and check down to the barrel to adjust I get some double vision about 50% of the time. I guess the solution is to keep at it until my gun mount is perfect every time, that way I will only be looking at the target and should be fine. As all the sources of instruction suggest, shooting clays as soon as I allow myself to get distracted by the bead I slow my swing and miss the bird! I'll keep at it for a bit and see how things go.

Your eye's do tend to work that way. ;)

Here's a tip you might want to think about for your practice that I picked up from a shooting instructor. Take a Maglite and put it into the end of the gun barrel, focus the light beam and when you practice your mounts shine the light at a nearby wall and keep your eyes on the beam. Also note how the beam moves. If it bobbles up and down as you mount the gun your back hand is doing too much work. Most of the gun mount should come from your forward hand.

Thanks claybuster - I've heard about this before but never got around to trying it. I was afraid to scratch the inside of my barrel. I'll put a wrap of duck tape on my AA maglight and try that.

That's what I do with mine. Protects the barrel and keeps the light snug.
