Botnia muzzle brake

the botnia is so expensive because its not cheap to 3d print metal. end of story.

yes they are worth the money, yes they are incredibly loud.

Weight is a good thing in certain instances .
A hunting / carry rifle I agree that light is right but then no need for a break .
Computation rifle users typically add weight .

Weight can easily and cheaply be added to most rifles. The Botnia must be the most expensive means to add weight to a rifle. Stock weights cost like $50, which means the Botnia is an order of magnitude more expensive and that is not nothing.

It's expensive because as others have stated, it's 3D printed. Which is extremely costly to do so. I would assume their brake has features that are not readily machinable without being 3D printed, which would make sense why they are that price.

Stop crying then.

They are proven to be the most effective brake on the market.

If you don’t want to buy one, stop complaining about the price.

Yes you got me there . My grammar does leave a bit to be desired. I also have Large index fingers and a small key pad .
But with your intellectual superiority you figured out what I wanted to say .
Its usually later in the night when I get a chance to check all the smart bum remarks with a Rum or 2 in my tummy .
Will be editing my spelling , please check it out . Hope I got it correct :censored:
PS Botina is on order

At least that top brake looks like it should cost what it does.

The botnia looks like an “ikea - my first lathe and muzzle brake kit”

And after all, looking cool is 7/8 of the way to being a great shooter.
I had an opportunity to test out the botnia Maxi on my 300prc in an mdt acc elite chassis, along with an APW Monster.

The botnia looks ridiculous sitting on it's own.... but When it went onto my rifle, it looked awesome and the blocky look, matched up with the blocky chassis.... I almost bought one just because it looked so good on the gun!

I shot it and yeah the recoil reduction is huge, the muzzle jump is greatly reduced. The APW Monster is a quarter the price and about 5% less reduction tho... so I stuck with that. Id love to do more testing in the future

Botnia were stupid and posted a pic of what is inside. 🤷‍♂️ It could definitely be machined in two parts. Mill the body and then cap it with a flat plate screwed in place. Could be made by a home hobbyist.

I'm gonna make my own. I can CAD and have access to a metal 3D printer.

Not sure they are stupid. Their initial design was for two parts but would not stand up to the blasts in heavy use and was not as effective over time

That would be awesome! Saying your gonna make something and actually doing it are long ways apart. Im sure Im not the only one that would love to see just how handy you really are! Pictures like they say,are worth a thousand words. There are pictures and even schematic drawings of many things available, that doesnt mean it can be built bye the vast majority of people. You, however might just be that guy!! IHFDI

The posted pics of the internals and did a vid where they showed flow patterns and explained how the thing worked. Anyone with CAD skills and access to a DMS printer can copy their design.

A. I Don't Care About You. 🤷‍♂️

B. I have been doing my own CAD on pretty complex parts for about 20 years now.

C. I am currently having parts made in 316SS on a DMLS printer. The next batch should be completed next week.

D. Aside from the CAD work, which really isn't that difficult, it takes zero skill to hand a file over to a company to do the print. After that, the part goes into a 4-jaw chuck on the lathe for threading. I've made loads of much more complex parts than that brake.

E. Just because you can't fathom doing such work, doesn't mean others can't 🤷‍♂️

Well, like I previously posted. You might be that guy! Looking forward to pics of your results and I’m sure I’m not the only one. Should I put everything in categories A,B,C,D,E? I’m still Fathoming so give me a while.

Just got a Botnia from Luke at Dominion Outdoors, who, on a side note, is awesome to deal with. I’ve bought quite a few products from Dominion over the years and have spent a lot of time discussing gear with the guys there. Their customer service is second to none.
For context, I’m running a 20 lb 6 Dasher with an Insite Gen 2 4-Port brake. I bought the Botnia expecting it might be a little louder but would noticeably improve my ability to maintain sight picture.
After spending a couple of hours shooting from a variety of positions, my experience was a bit different than expected. Recoil reduction felt very similar between the two brakes, and if anything, the sight picture may have actually been a little more stable with the Insite. That was definitely not what I was expecting going in.
The biggest difference was concussion. The Botnia produced significantly more blast than the Insite. At the end of the session, I went home with the Insite still mounted on the rifle.
I’ve heard the Botnia’s effectiveness becomes more noticeable as cartridge size increases, so a 6 Dasher may not be where you’d expect to see the biggest performance gains. My next step is to put it on my 7 PRC and see if it shines there and then try to report back. If not, it may eventually find its way to the Equipment Exchange section of this site 😂…..

It is refreshing to see an honest review.

Too many people will convince themselves that something is better (even if it is not) simply because they spent $$$ on it (placebo effect if you will).

To be clear I have no skin in the game here. Just watching on and curious if the different approach by Botnia (I am all for innovation - great to see it) is a big step forward or not and worth it relative to the price.

Be sure to let us know what you find with the 7 PRC.
