bottom line: SKS for hunting?

The ATI stock is crappy, I've handled one a few times and couldn't stand it. The Tapco is better so I'd go with that. If I were going to hunt with another SKS, i'd just take off the bayo.

I took a chinese out in the bush a few times because it had the chrome lined bore, and it was raining. Never shot anything with it, but after being drenched all day and driven home for 4 hours in a truck there was no rust. If I were to keep using the thing, I'd definitely get rid of the wooden stock and put something synthetic on.

I call the bayonet a mono-pod and is great for hunting. Besides for the fact it's an instant mono-pod by stabing it into the ground you can also poke the animal to make sure it's dead from a distance. As for aftermarket stocks are conserend the Vietnam fiberglass stocks all the way!

hunting coyotes specifically.
Sick and tired of searching for a "bolt action" 'yote gun, when I know I want a semi.

Not going to be shooting corrosive: non-corrosive only.
Changing the stock to a new ATI Strikeforce Stock, for the obvious tactikool look.

Yes? No?

Why not give the rifle a try.
I have yet to shoot noncorrosive ammo out of mine, but, have heard they shoot more accurate than steel jacket mil surp bullets so let some rip at some mangy old dogs... even if you dont put any holes in them, at least you'll put the fear of Jesus into them.

The coyotes here are usually too far away and require MOA accuracy with some bullet expansion or you've got a big tracking job unless a shoulder hit. I've rolled them over with .30 cal. cast bullets, but when they right themselves they're long gone.

My SKS is the cheapest, funnest, most accurate carbine I have.
After a day of shooting, I strip it down, soak it in the laundry sink
and scrub it up/down with a series of brushs. Some 5-30 Mobile
synthetic oil gets it ready for next time.

BUT, it would be nice to have a PROPERLY mounted scope.
I tried the ones that are forged as the rear spring housing.
These shake loose and make strip down a pain in the a$$.
The Choate side mount would do quite nicely, but I can't seem
to find one up here in the great white north.

Does anyone know where to get a CHOATE side mount scope mount
for the SKS? This mount requires drilling/tapping the receiver.

Thanks,
