Bottom metal questions.

That is fantastic news.

Are they available in Canada?

Jerry

I can't say I have seen or heard of them In Canada. Apparently another business member, Northern Republic Magazine, can get them, but they do not show stock. I must say that the Alpha site is somewhat confusing and conflicting. On the cover page they list long-action calibers such as the .270 and a generic 7mm, but don't actually list any magazines associated with those calibers. I swear I read Alpha Magazines and 30-06 in the same sentence somewhere, but I cannot recall where. Maybe those long-action calibers work fine in the .300 WM magazines, but I do not know. They also picture an M14 type rifle with one of their magazine inserted, but no documentation anywhere on the site.

Lots of cool stuff made in the US that is not set up for legal export to Canada.

If this changes, awesome but afaik, the high cap mags we have access to are 308, 300wm and 338 lapua family only.

I would love to be wrong....

Was it a PITA?

I had to put it in the mill and then do a little dremel work. As far as feeding goes it is not perfect , but I am shooting 168gr berger seated fairly long, I think with with a more standard seating depth like a factory hunting type round I suspect it would work ok but I have not tried that.

I don't want to rain on parades here guys, but Alpha mags are rare as hens teeth in Kanada. I've been trying to source some for a long time. Also I don't beleive they make a long action 30-06-esque mag. They make .308 based, long magnum and WSM mags along with one for the Cheytac series of cartridges.

It may be possible to run a 308 follower in a long mag magazine, tune the feed lips and epoxy the mag spring so the follower stays put.

I've run Trexler mags, in my Hs Precision stocked 30-06 for a while, a little dicking around with them, but they work fine. Run the same mags in my .284.

I'd have to second the Trexler (kwick Klip, or something like that). Easy to install, half the cost of other systems, and maybe not mil spec but certainly reliable (with a little work). WGP in Edmonton sells them and they are in stock w/ the 10 round mags.

The Kwik Klip with the 10 shot mags is what I'm using now on two 30-06 rifles. A little tweaking to get them going, and all seemed well at the range. It was when I took them to the field that things started to go awry. Get a bit of red desert dust in them and they started to jam up. The spring couldn't push the stack up reliably, and the last two became a sometimes thing. Stretch the springs and the mags would start to spread from the pressure of a fully loaded mag would start to spread the feed lips to the point that they had to be forced into the rifle.

In the end we had at least decent luck with the stretched springs and only loading 7 or 8 rounds. I also tore the mags apart and cleaned then once per day. Skip a day, and feeding got iffy again. One new mag didn't work no matter what I did so it got tossed in the garbage.

I was hoping for an improved set-up.
