Well, I've been wanting to do 3-gun for a while now but have lacked the proper equipment to do so. With a proper rifle on the way, and an adequate shotgun in the safe, I figured it was about time to get myself a decent pistol. Unfortunately my .30 Luger Luger with one functional magazine and my pair of .22 target pistols just don't quite cut it for a 3-gun competition, informal or otherwise. So today I made my way down to The Shooting Edge and bought myself a railed, steel frame Jericho 941 Range kit, comprising of the pistol, 3 magazines, a paddle holster and a mag dual mag holder. Now all i have to do is wait for the transfer to go through and I'll be off to the races!

I do have a couple questions for y'all experienced owners out there. I did my research and read the reviews, but I gotta ask, did I make a good choice? The gun certainly felt nice and the trigger was decent, but I have nowhere near the experience to know much about anything pistol related. Second, I've read varying opinions on paddle holsters; some saying they are great and others saying they are downright dangerous. As long as the holster retains the gun by friction, should I disable the paddle, or should I just use it as is? keep in mind the question is being framed by a newb to 3-gun, and not a pistol expert. Lastly, what do you owners feed your Jericho? TSE has steel cased Barnaul by the case, but I am always leary of steel cased anything. Another question is bullet weight; in Calgary I see lots of supply of reasonably priced (<$20/box) 115gr 9mm, but hardly any 124gr stuff. What works best, and/or what will simply work?

Got a CZ 85 combat. Same platform. Great gun. Have only heard good things about Jerico's. I avoid steel cased ammo although I know some folks that use it . Steel on steel is something I was told to avoid back in the day with bore brushes so the thought of running it through a guns chamber is not for me. Especially in a semi auto. Too much friction on too many components.

I bought a Jericho in 9mm last fall, shot maybe 200-300 rounds and sold it. It's a very soft shooting pistol with a good trigger. The initial quality and finish is top notch. Mine came with the paddle hostler that I removed the locking lever. Here's what I disliked about that pistol:

Kept having double feed malfunction
The slide lock is very hard to push out for dissasembly which is not very convenient. You can always use a magasine as a tool but still, compared to a Glock, M&P, Sig etc, it's an extra step.
Having internal rails, you have too little slide to rack + having the safety mounted on the slide, you basicly have nothing to grab properly.

^^^^ Not familiar with any of the issues, i own 4 one with 5000+ rounds nd still not a single Fte or Ftf.

Great buy you will love it

Thanks for the input guys! Would 115gr American eagle run fine? There is an informal match coming up Thursday and I would like to take my new prize for a spin, but lack the ammo to do so.

Thats what im currently running, 1200 rounds no issue 800 :( left out of my 2000 batch i got 2 months ago

Good choice I bought mine last march with over now somewhere in the 12000 round ball park the only problem I had was with the front sight moving in the dovetail which I thought was from my leather holster turned out it was from a dangerously hot batch of blaser brass beating the tar out of the slide. As for the ammo question mine does it's best with 147grn American eagle.

The paddle is just the part tucked in your pants.....no danger there.....maybe you mean the Serpa retention button? Some claim it is dangerous, but in my experience using the same style with a Sig there's no issues. Apply pressure with a straight trigger finger, don't bend it and push inward. This will reduce any 'risk/danger' and put your trigger in good indexed position after the draw

Congrats on the Jericho. I have one myself and never had any issues. As for the paddle holster, I have one for the Jericho and one for my Sig. Never had an issue myself. From my understanding, some people have a tendency to have their finger on the trigger when unholstering which could be dangerous. I would recommend practicing a bit at home with an empty gun just to get the feel for it.

As Grom mentioned, a straight finger when disengaging the holster safety.

Congrats on your purchase. I own a Jericho and have roughly 1000 rounds through and have had 1 malfunction due to a bad round. Straight shooter if you do your part. Accurate, and heavy Steele frame eats up much of the recoil for quick follow up shots. My only partial complaint is slide mounted safety is a bit tricky to disengage. As it serves as a decocker I leave on fire while it's holstered. Good trigger finger discipline Will keep you safe on the draw. Long double action pull but nice single action pulls there after. Overall very happy with it. Hope you enjoy it add much as I've been.

This right here is my complaint, it makes me look like i know what im doin until i fire another gun nd its all over lol.

The gun is better than i am by miles

I don't know how many rounds you have put thru it so far, I just bought one in 9mm and the first thing that I did was fully strip and clean the entire pistol, polished the ramp and throat, cleaned / smoothed the sear face and hammer then ran flitz polish the entire length of the slide and ran the action about 50 to 75 times to smooth that out. First day on the range with 200 rnds, friggin thing ran flawlessly. I am very happy with this pistol.

I have never seen any info on breaking in a new Jericho 941 so I took my knowledge of 1911's and went with that.

I do not have one but I have shot a few of them and I almost bought one. Great gun, value for money, very reliable and one of the best trigger out of the box. Then, the downsides: Not so great finish. Who cares. Don't use it if you don't want scratches. You can send it for Hard Chrome or Arma Coat as soon as the finish turns ugly. Not too many accessories available. As for ammo, find something 135 gr and up for a softer recoil. Bulk 115 and 125 gr tends to be snappy as with any pistol. Lead bullets will take you to a more frequent cleaning sessions because of a polygonal barrel profile. In theory, Polygonal barrels hates LEAD bullets. Your accuracy will suffer as soon as lead builds up in the rifling. Jacketed, plated and Coated bullets are suggested over bare lead bullets for use in polygonal barrels. Unless you are ready to clean the barrel almost after every range session, then you can use Lead bullets. Some shooters will challenge this norm, but this is my honest observation about lead bullets on a Jericho 941. Several shooters I know had success in using Lead Bullets in their Jericho 941 with very minimal lead build-up in the barrel. If you are reloading, the key is to find a slow burning powder that will suit your need. Also, Polymer, Powder or Epoxy coated runs well in place of Jacketed and Plated bullets.

A Jericho 941 in .40S&W was my first ever pistol. I love that thing. My only real complain is mags are neither easy nor cheap to come by. I had the LGS order in 2 spares for me and it set me back about $115 if I recall correctly.

Aside from that, the pistol is a dream to shoot for me. It fits my hands perfectly, it's heavy steel frame eats recoil, and it looks good doing it! Trigger is great, and the pistol is far more accurate then I am.

tl:dr version: Excellent choice, you won't be disappointed.

I think I've put at least 1k rounds through thus far. It often gets used as a club gun and even I get to shoot too sometimes! The guns runs excellent, and I've only had two failures thus far; a failure to disengage the safety and failure to seat the magazine properly! Otherwise the gun has run 100% with anything it's been fed, whether its AE, Wolf Lead or BDX.
