Bought a Mosin-Nagant!

Mosin, I feel its a easier sell (provided your being reasonable) and you don't invest nearly as much money into it. Plus I have never had a issue with my Mosin (can't say the same for the SVT-40). If you keep your standards reasonable both are good buys though (eg. don't expect a sub-moa rifle or extremely fast action etc.).

Locally they want $352 for 880 rounds.

Yipe! I thought the local Czech here at $269 was a little pricey. On the subject WSS has Czech 7.62x39 on for $199/case for one more day per boxing week. Plus there's scratch and save at the till. I picked up four bags of Winchester 40 cal bullets at 50 percent off, then got and extra 15 knocked off at the till.

Drache,
Excellent write-up! I think you've nailed it.
Never fired the AK-47, but I have a CZ-858, SKS, and an AK-84 (fires NATO 5.56) that I have fired, along with the AR-15 variants.
Last year I bought a Mosin as a rifle/ammo combo deal. I fired it, then got addicted to it.
I now have 2 1942 Mosins, 1 1942 Mosin bent bolt, 1 1944 Polish M44, and my latest an M91, which I believe was made 1910-1915.
The M44 I call my "Polish Dragon", as she roars and spews flame.
You will need to get more.

If I like this Mosin then I'll eventually spring for a Mosin Sniper Rifle to match up against my K98 Sniper rifle I'm building. Have my own "Enemy at the Gates" display :D
