Went into Reliable today to pick up some black powder for my father in laws 1851 navy and they had this M44 on the used rack for $170. Seeing how they list for more than that on the EE, are hard to come by and I was standing there I figured it was a good deal.

This is the first time I've come in contact with one of these and the first impression is "wow" what a nasty little piece of business this thing is.

I can't wait to try some stuffed handloads with slow burning powder :D

They are cute as a button. At 50 yards they throw 4" depending on whether the bayonet is open or closed.

And they kick like a horse!!

Yep, I can vouch for that as well.

The full length version isn't a big deal. But the M44 is a good reason to buy a slip on recoil pad or get one of the screw on recoil pads that replace the steel butt plate.

Either that or shop for the thick, heavy Russian wool great coat and use that as your period correct recoil pad.... :D

Ahhhhh! Crap! I was going to go to Reliable yesterday morning and I am in the market for an M44. I got held up in Langley and didn't make it or it would have been mine.
I'll give you $175 for it and you can turn a nice $5 profit :)

A butchered K98 $225, mini-30 with folding stock $500, sporterized SMLE4-1 $150 (no metal work so it's restorable), some 10/22, BAR's, old ass rolling block .45-90 (if i remember correctly)

those are what caught my eye

I'm looking for an Enfeild #4 to restor but $150 is a bit much. I have all the wood and bits. I may wander down there just to have a look.

When you say "BAR's" all I can think about is the browning automatic rifle (20 round detachable mag?).

What rifle are folks referring to when they say BAR?
