I bought a camo 10/22 many years ago but being camo it never felt right to change up the stock or anything. Today friend offerred me a plain-Jane blued with a wooden stock with maybe 500 rounds through at a price i couldnt turn down so now I have one to personalize one. First off I'd like a 26-28 inch barrel (I can make it shorter but not longer if I don't like it), green mountain or something similar in a non bull barrel design, even used one. The stock will need bedding he says, as I have not seen it I don't know what kind of wood is it? Once I get it I will probably redo the stock in a custom one off color stain, will see how the bare wood looks. Have a leupold vx1 3-9 to find a mount for, then I'll need to read the 10/22 stick for cleaning up the action.

I bought a second 10/22 to modify as well. Bought Kidd barrel, bolt, charging handle kit, and 2 stage trigger, along with a Boyd's stock. Haven't put it together yet. Was thinking of a Dlask receiver too. If I go that route, the second 10/22 can be left alone, and I'll have three ;)

Just curious, why would you want a 26"-28" barrel?

I can plink in my backyard without ticking off the neighbiurs

I've got an Anschutz with a 25.5" barrel, I'll chrony it with the same lot of ammo compared to an 18.5" and a 12.5" I have to see the difference.

it does my cooey model 60 with standard velocity ammo is quiet there's .22's that have barrels over 30" that sound suppressed with standard velocity ammo

Maybe 50-100 fps. I'm shooting paper, makes the same hole. Sent an email off to Bits about the barrel. Gun promised to be delivered tomorrow morning.

I suppose you are right. Just shooting indoors? If outside how far do you shoot? I like the thought of a quiet gun to shoot though.

Got the new barrel paid off today. Because it was pre made and I didn't want to spend more on it than I had to its going to be a 28 inch tapered barrel :0

your putting a 28" barrel on a 10/22???

forget bedding it, your gonna need a 2nd stock and probably some sort of counterweight, possibly even some sort of vehicle mount.
i run a 18" on mine and i cant fathom another 10" on it.

Yours is a bull barrel. I ordered a tapered barrel. A nagant has a 26 inch barrel can't be that heavy
