bought it this time. martini henry bayonet

Looks more like the 1903 pattern bayo. Don't believe that it is for M-H ?? Should fit the SMLE....basically a redone Pattern 1888 Metford ? Need cleared photos...food for thought.

i think you`ve been drinking the merlot, lol. that won't fit any SMLE. that bayonet was made feb 1894 & has the unit it was issued to stamped right on it. and if it was a 1903 pattern, i`d say it be worth a pretty penny with a 3 digit serial #.
does look similar, but they all look similar. the arisaka looks so similar as well

Its 1894 dated, but something is off. I have an 1888 bayo and its not the same

I'm on my tablet trying to upload a picture and its not working. My bayo is1897 dated and does not fit a martini henry, its a long lee bayo.

yours does not look like it would fit a martini or long lee. Weird

On second thought having looked at my martinis it might just fit

you better send it to me I'll check it on my 3 martinis and let you know if it fits

the Canadian P1894 bayonet is patterned after the 1888, with slight differences. the cross guard is different, the 1888 usually has a leather? crosshatched handle.
they were not all issued to the RRCI, at least 50 went to the defence and militia.
i just don`t know what it is worth.
the button and the length of the pommel are also different from a 1903.

1888 bayos had wood handles. Type I had 3 rivets Type II as my picture shows only 2

I dont think its a pattern 03.. but I've been wrong before

did a bit more research, it is #272 of 1000 made in Canada and issued to the Royal regiment of Canada.
the troops found the rifle a bit heavy, and switched to the lee met ford? by the start of the Boer War.

P 1893, 1000 made for Canada by Wilkinson for use on the Martini Metford Rifle.

Very nice find.

thats just it, all my rifles and stuff, i wasn`t looking. but i will keep my eyes open now, for that Mk IV Martini, at least until i sell it to pay off debt. mostly why i bought it.
blade is untouched, never sharpened, the grinding looking marks on it are from the scabbard. have some oil on the button, hope the spring is good. surface rust here and there, scabbard not numbered, but is the correct style scabbard.
to those proponents of the 1903 theory, won`t fit, handle too long, ring too large by about 1mm. would be really cool if it did, because it is the coolest bayonet i own. now i want a bayonet for my SMLE.
