At lease I fired one before I gave my opinion. I mean to me its a $$$ SKS D...Only difference is bit more accurate, last round hold back, pistol grip and different stock, but still has the same crappy AK mag system (As the SKS D) and that god awfull blue finish....

What?! That's weird. Since when does Canadian Tire start stocking "Evil Guns"? Geez, I just thought they stocked bolt action hunting rifles and thatn was rpetty much it.

I also bought a CZ 858 yesterday from Canadian Tire in Kenora, for $599. Very pleased with the price, and excited to get the rifle. "Czech" out the response I got from CZ in the Czech Republic when I asked them about shooting corrosive ammo through the gun -
Me-> I just purchased a CZ 858 Tactical in Canada, but I have questions. First, how
do I clean this rifle after using surplus corrosive ammunition. Also, How can I
mount a holosight on the gun - (something like your oko sights). Is there a
weaver rail that can attach to the handguard available, so I can use a Hakko
holosight? Please mail me as much info as you can. Thanks

Seriously- a big thanks to granite for putting me on to his CZ deal - I posted a WTB in the black rifle exchange forum, and he responded to me pretty quickly, and I was able to get one at an amazing price. I speak first hand when I say the service was very helpful and friendly at the Kenora Canadian Tire, I'd recommend them very highly to anyone. - Granite - was I the only guy that didn't buy a folding stock? Personally, I don't know wht guys want folding stocks - they are always less stable and less comfortable. If anyone ever sees a nice Dragunov stock for a CZ (only in my dreams, and by the way I dream Choate, NOT Advanced Technolgies...)let me know. I admit, I do like the tough guy look of a folder, but how many of us are shooting 5 rounds from the hip?

The Crappy T here in Charlottetown sells guns.
Funny thing though... they always had about 5 or 6 popular guns but were somewhat pricey (at least compaered to mail order)
Then a Gun Shop opened in town and 2 years later CT got about 20 guns... after Christmas they had 19 guns on clearance but still more than SIR/Wholesale etc. If I am going to pay more than mailorder, I will and have bought from specialty shops, where you pay for the service.
Our new gun shop (other one went bankrupt in November......long story.) has already sold 7 VZ58s and will be getting a few more VZs as well as CZs. Not bad considering our province is smaller than most cities in Canada.

I have serious doubts that the Czech ammo is corrosive.
The instruction manual that comes with the CZ 858 states.......... "These rifles are specifically engineered to comply with the Mod. 43 cartridge". The Czech ammo that comes on 10 rnd stripper clips in 20 rnd blue boxes IS the Mod .43 cartridge.
The instruction manual gives specific instructions for cleaning the rifle that does not include anything other than the ordinary cleaning methods that I would perform with any rifle after using non corrosive ammunition.
I have cleaned the rifle normally after using Mod. 43 ammo without any signs of corrosion being apparent later.
I think the Mod. 43 ammunition is dirty but NOT corrosive.
I have used corrosive German ammo in an MP 44 and was expecting similar cleaning problems with the Czech cartridge but I have been pleasantly surprised.
I can't understand the continued posts about where to obtain optic mounts for the VZ/CZ 858. It is no secret that a purpose built side mount can be obtained from the Czech republic. The cost is $ 100 US delivered.
