After tons of thought and deliberation I bought my 1st Glock. I have not even had a chance to shoot 'er yet. Hopefully Monday I'll be able to get it home. It's my first brand new pistol and I am excited to see how it runs out of the box. It's my 2nd pistol now, the 1st being a Sig P226. Hopefully the Glock makes me just as happy. Can anyone recommend any good upgrades that I should think about for my G17??? Now on to ponder what I will add to my "collection" next, perhaps a CZ, or maybe a Kimber..... or an HK so many choices ???

I was thinking that would be the first thing I was going to change. That's what I have on my Sig and I think they are great. Maybe it will help keep a bit of consistency switching between the 2 pistols as well.

Might want to consider a new bbl. The factory bbl. cannot handle lead due to it's rifling design and will lead up quickly. The stock Glock bbl. is built too loose and the brass will expand a fair bit. This will work harden the brass over time and mean that the brass cracks. Cheap ammo like Winchester White Box can cause problems in the Glock.

I never thought that I would ever say this about a Glock but, "That is a nice looking pistola. Very clean."

The first 1,000 rounds I put through my glock 22 were lead reloads and had no trouble. If you clean it every now and then you shouldn't have troubles.

IMO your Glock needs nothing out of the box. Shoot a couple thousand rounds thru it first. That said...both my Glocks wear Trijicon night sights.
It will feel different than your Sig. Not better or worse....just different. Enjoy the new HG!

Congratulations on your new pistol !!!!!
I've got a Gen1 Glock 17 that l've had since 1993. It was my first pistol. I love the thing. It'll fire any ammo that you fill the mag with.

Check out a Vickers Tactical Slide Stop. I was iffy on the stock one, and after a bit of research, landed on the Vickers. It's just a bit more aggressive without changing the Glock's character. Relatively cheap (around $20) too...

Dam I just bought a glock 22 gen 4 in a .40 s&w. with the purchase I took a 1000 rounds of the winchester white box in fmj 180 grain. O well going to fire them off. Sorry to jack this thread.

Btw congrats on the new pistol

Congrats on your first Glock. That is different to see USA there. You will find it slightly different from the SIG as far as what works the best in your hands for consistency. I love Glocks, my style of grip was made for them. I shoot it 50% better than my SIG. Again it's all about your grip style, or how you been trained or learned to shoot a pistol.
Glock's seem to work best with a high strong hand thumb and vise grip between front strap and back. Try this you will come to like it. The grip shape and angle is a match made in heaven for this style that works well with the older modified weaver stance.

At least you had the Sig first and won't be riding the slide release lever on your 226 allowing the slide to go forward on last round and you thinking there's still one in the pipe like me.

Great choice and don't be afraid to fill you hand up with those backstraps. The Gen 3 has the best compromise in my mind after trying the Gen 4's set, unless you have enormous hands.

Good luck with your perfection.:canadaFlag:

Once you fire off those 1k rounds with zero malfunctions, you'll be able to form your own conclusions. The good thing about that if you're into helping people, is that you'll be able to offer advice based on facts, as opposed to opinions based on misinformation as jimmieA has done.

Enjoy your new gun.
Stock Glocks are boringly reliable.

It doesnt need any upgrades, dont mess with perfection. A nice set of steel sights, but thats it.

The information I offer is from the book "Glock Deconstructed" written by Patrick Sweeney and my own experience. My Glock takes the White Box ammo and it lands on my head and face when ejected. After the first 35 rounds with the stock bbl it was leaded up. I now have a Lone Wolf 9-40 bbl in it. My Glock is the 22 model, same as the 17 and I am shooting 9mm in it right now but have a Lone Wolf .40S&W bbl as well for it. Of the guns that I own I can honestly say I like the Glock the least. I bought the gun to see what all the fuss was about. Around here if your brave enough to say anything about a Glock that isn't complimentary there are always a few that will flame you.
