So I went out and purchased a Ruger 10/22 Deluxe Sporter Edition. I teamed it with a Tasco World Class 2-8x30 scope, Weaver rings and bases, and a Ramline 25rd magazine.

All I have to say is:

I love the walnut stock and no barrel band on those rifles. You're going to have a lot of fun with that gun. Congrats!

Don't forget to swap out the crappy factory extractor with a VQ extractor...you can buy them online at either Hawk Tech or Rimfire Sports. That way you will be able to feed that gun any ammo you choose without any annoying FTE's. You may also want to drop in a VQ extended mag release so you don't have to dig in there to release your magazines...well worth it IMO. I like it so much I have spare VQ parts in my drawer waiting for my second 10/22. :)

My 10/22 was born a deluxe. That stock is freaking beautiful and pretty light-weight.

+ one to the buffer, and get a hex takedown bolt while you're at it. BCBoy on here sells them.

Thanks for the tips guys. I'll have pics up soon I hope, once I find the bloody camera. I tried a Butler Creek Hot Lips 25rd mag, but it wouldn't feed let alone extract the shells. Only jammed. Switched to the Ramline, and it's the cat's ass. I'll have to save some money and get those extra parts you reccomended. Is the VCL 10/22 Exact Edge Extractor the extractor mentioned? Oh, and would it be worth it to get an extended magazine release? The factory one seem a bit lame. Also considering a VQ auto bolt release. How tough are these parts to install?

Yes, the Volquartsen parts that you mentioned are the ones that I meant. If you order them all at once, then you can install them all at the same time. Very easy to do. For the mag release and auto bolt release, they are both just held in place by pins and springs. Before you dismantle them, just take careful note of how everything fits in relation to each other and you won't have any problems.

I'm surprised at your Ramline/BC comment too...I've heard some people refer to Ramline as "Jamline" because of the problems those mags are known for. I have noticed that recently they have been advertised as "new design"...so maybe that's why you have good luck with them. Whatever works...:)

FWIW...my two Steel Lips mags were working great with my 10/22 until I recently changed the bolt handle to an Extended Bolt Handle made by Volquartsen. Suddenly the mag that fits more tightly than the other started to have the occassional feed problem (bolt gets stuck and won't completely close). Note that it's not an extract problem, but the bolt actually gets stuck and won't close completely...only on the Steel Lips mag that fits tighter than the other one. I have a feeling it has something to do with the spring that the extended bolt handle came with. Anyone else experience this?

Cheers.

Thanks for the info Allstone. I'll have to field strip the gun and figure out what makes her tick. I pretty mechanically inclined, so it shouldn't be too bad. :)

As for the BC magazine, I found that it would have issues stripping a round of it. It'd take a fair amount of jiggling, cursing and kicking(kidding) to get the round into the chamber. the it would fire but the next round jammed. I have yet to fire the Ramline, but when I loaded it and hand worked the action, it worked way better than the BC. We'll see, I might go out today and try it.
