Bought my first hand gun - M&P 9

:HFU: I just bought my first handgun EVAR (M&P9).....feels like Christmas lol
Time to count the days before my club safety then the prob shooting.

Anything I need to know about that M&P9?
Now, you glock fanatics don't need to say a thing....I know what you gonna say. "you should have bought a Glock 17 instead!" ovrec

Actually i was gonna say you should have bought a Glock 21 instead! But good on ya for popping the pistol cherry. :dancingbanana:

It was my first gun as well, start checking Brownells for wearable items like, firing pins, springs etc... they are only available for a day or 2 sometimes then go MIA/out of stock for a few months at a time, Good to have a few spare parts in case of breakage which happens to any gun btw before the glock guys chime in lol!

Congrats on the first gun I just bought my first handgun too I couldn't decide on the m&p40 or the glockenspiel 17... So I bought both enjoy. I've been waiting for 3 weeks for a ATt to the range

I have over 25,000 rounds through mine.......
I have never had to replace a part.
I have not had a failure that wasn't ammo related!

No need for an apex kit, google "burwell trigger job for M&P". I did mine in 2009. Fairly simple, power point with nice big pictures!

I called up MD Charlton this winter to order up some spare parts, just-in-case..... I was informed that S&W recommends changing the recoil spring every 50,000 rounds...... I ordered one anyway!

Very interesting on the "Burwell trigger job"

Not my first gun, more like my 25th - but it's the one I've shot the most. I've been running it for 7 or so years and have put 50K through it. I've replaced parts - but not because I had to - despite the fact that mine is one of the "less reliable" ones, it's never had an issue that wasn't caused by bad ammo. I've just put a Storm Lake barrel in it for shizzles and giggles. See if you can find the APG video on the M&P - it describes full tear down and rebuild.

Factory spare parts are non-existent at the moment. S&W is so back logged with back orders for pistols they've restricted the sale of parts "for the fore-seeable future". Aside from the Apex kits, there doesn't seem to be much of an after market flux of the typical hop-up parts avail (extended mag & slide releases etc).

To the OP, enjoy the new toy. Shoot the stink out of it, replace the barrel and repeat.
