Just got my RPAL on Thursday and I have already purchased my first pistol. YAY! ;)

I went to the gun show in Fredericton today and walked around, looking to see if anyone had a Ruger 22/45 for sale, as I've been having a terribly hard time finding one for sale anywhere in Canada, and I have been searching for months.

When the closest thing I could find was a used Ruger Mark III for a new gun price, and after discussing with my uncle the fact that he has a Ruger 22/45 that I have put rounds through and can put rounds through again, I decided to open myself up to other .22-calibre pistol options.

I went to the area that The Gun Dealer had rented (which was easily a quarter of the floor space :D) and started browsing the small selection of pistols they had at the show. After fondling a S&W M&P, I picked up a Sig Sauer 1911-22 and immediately fell in lust. It fits my hand nicely and is, basically, a full-size 1911 that is chambered in .22-calibre, so it will be a great training firearm in preparation for buying a 9mm or .45 in a year or two.

They had 'em in tan, olive drab green, camo, and black. I was already leaning towards the black, but the decision was made extremely easy when the salesperson (Mark) informed me that the regular black version was $70 cheaper than the other finishes!

Now comes the part I hate most... the waiting. I can't wait to take it to the range and put some rounds through it.

I almost picked up an SKS, too, but the wife is already steaming a bit about the price of the Sig, so I decided to wait a couple of weeks. Besides, my local Canadian Tire has them for the same price and they look much nicer, cosmetically, than what was at the show.

Congrats however I don't think it will take a year or two for you to get a 9mm or .45....it will be a lot sooner, funds pending of course. Have fun!

Welcome! I too have a Sig 1911 and it's been great. Just make sure you keep your mags clean. I find that it makes a huge difference when it comes to feeding issues. That pistol will treat you well.
