Anyone who posts in the hunting section may have seen my post about which hunting rifle for moose. I had decided on the Tikka T3, I went to bass pro shops to pick it up and they didn't have it in my caliber (.30-06) So I was brousing around abit and fell in love with an all black (looks tactical) Browning BAR. While I havent yet fired it it feels like an awesome rifle. Solid and well made. Anybody have any comments about this rifle? pro's? con's? I'd love to hear them all.

thanks,

Jonathan

Congradulations on your first rifle. You picked a good one, but please don't use the word tactical to decribe it. :puke: They are well made and accurate enough to hunt with. I find them a little heavy, but that is to be expected. Browning makes some of the nicest synthetic stocks, too. Keep it cleaned, and it will work well for you.

great pick! I have an early model BAR in 338 win mag and totally love it. Ya it's a heavy pig but have yet to have one problem. The new BARs are supposed to be even better. You're gonna love that rifle.

I consider this rifle to be pretty light. I don't find it cumbersome in anyway. Here's a couple of pics, notice it still has the factory sticker on the barrel.

enjoy!

You're right about it looking a little tactical and it is an awesome rifle and very well made. Enjoy!

its not the shortrac/longtrac type, but they still do make the BAR like they used to, like the one pictured above

So here's a pic I took tonight after I installed some "accessories" Le tme know what you guys think. Also a question. take a look at the sights and how close them come to the scope, so close that I can't even get my scope cap on. I bought the "high" scope mounts as well. Anyone have a solution for this that I haven't thought of yet?

thanks,

Jonathan

Nice looking gun.

I had a BAR Mark I in 308 for a year or so but eventually sold it.

All Brownings are well-made rifles and shotguns, but there were three things I didn't like about it:

1. Hard plastic butt plate (yours looks like it has a butt pad).
2. Trigger broke unevenly, a couple of times I was still "pulling up the slack"
and it went off with unexpected slap to the face from the butt stock.
3. The gas system is hard to clean. You remove that nut on the bottom of the fore stock (the one with the sling swivel hole) and then you have to take a part a piston that is somewhat tricky to get back together.

Anyway it wasn't my cup of tea. After that I bought a Savage 99 (then sold it to my brother) and then a Remington 760.

Anyway, try it and I hope you like it!

nice gun

I bought a Bar .300 win. mag. last year for moose as well.

I've already shot approx. 30 rounds thru it & still missed the moose  :runaway:

kidding, never saw one last year, but did practice and I love the gun.

I only prefer it had a detachable box.

You'll love it.
