bought my !st "real" hunting rifle

That was my first hunting rifle too. I never did get around to hunting with it, though.

The only thing I disliked about it was the accutrigger (over hyped imo), the super long action and stock.

It's a great rifle though, and will definately put a round where you want it.

More than forty years ago I bought my first real big game rifle, a Savage 110 in 270Win. It was the beginning of a love affair with the 270 Win.

The past two years I have rediscovered the Savage riles, and have found them to be amazingly accurate for such a low price! :)

You will be pleased with both the cartidge and the rifle.

My first real hunting rifle was a savage 99c in 308. Bought it from a pawn shop in Victoria. I rode home on my bike with it strapped to my back. I was 15 years old. Thems were the good old days! Good luck with your savage.

congrats. the .270 will handle anything you're apt to hunt.it's always been a top notch calibre that was touted to no end and made popular by the late jack o'conner who was the gun editor for outdoor life magazine. for some strange reason, maybe the right deal was never there, i don't have one . got everything else. Hmmmm. maybe i should get one. enjoy!!

I see the scope, rings and bases have been upgraded. Those rifles usually shoot really well even without the accutrigger. I am sure that you'll enjoy your new rifle for years to come.

the 111FC does not have an accutrigger

When someone asks me what I recommend to buy for a good quality entry level rifle, my reply is Savage or Stevens. They shoot well and don't cost alot of money.
Down the line you can always upgrade, but watch out, high price doesn't always mean highly accurate.
Congrats on the 270 Win choice as well, you'll be happy with that round.

I bought a Savage 116FCSS last fall and I love that gun. Very accurate and quite underated from what I've been reading. Great guns for the price!!!

I have a savage 16fcss in 300wsm and a savage 14 in 308, both of them shoot amazingly accurate, are light and great handling rifles in the field, you shall not be dissapointed.

You didnt consider your 303 sporter a "real" hunting rifle?
I guess it depends what you are hunting. For moose I will take the heavier slower 303 bullet over the fast skinny 270 bullet anytime. If you are talking about open country deer ,sheep, goat ect then ya the 270 is the way to go.I consider my enfield sporter 303's "real" hunting rifles just as much as my remington 700 and Husky 4100.
