Bought a gorgeous rifle from a buddy last night in an old Sako AV in the wildcat 9.3 X 300 Win. He says he gets 3100 fps from 270 gn Speers and 2950 from 286 gn bullets. Rushed down to the local shop and bought some 286 gn Parts today, already have 2 or 3 boxes of 270 Speers. Will post pics tomorrow. Got a 26" Bevan King barrel throated out a bit and is supposed to shoot 3 shot 3/4" groups, will let you know on that.

Now that is an interesting chambering! I am going to follow this thread as I am very curious. It sounds like a 9.3x64 on steroids and without the hassle of difficult to find brass.

Did the seller give you load data? I'd be cautious - as I know someone with your experience will be without my saying - because a 286gr bullet at 2950 seems exceptionally fast. That is +150 fps faster than I got the 285gr Speer Grand Slams going out of my .375 H&H rifles. It is also that much faster than a 250gr out of a .358 Norma.

Please tell us the felt recoil. I have a 9.3x62, I can shoot prone with it while hunting(with bruise on my chest though). But I have to put on "PAST" shield to shoot on a bench.

If a 286 grain fly at 2900 f/s, the recoil must be huge.

After doing a little research i find those velocities as little generous. They may be possible depending on the barrel, will be watching to see what you find in load development. Should be interesting to shoot, good luck with that rifle.

At this point I'm just passing on heresay but will be playing with it this weekend weather permitting. Like I said I have 270 Speers and 286 Partitions and will take photos of groups and chrono print outs for all to see.
Will post photos of rifle today.

It's all relative Elker, I regularly shoot rifles from 340 Wby up to my 470 NE double and have conditioned myself for many years, so recoil is not an issue with me. I do prefer not to get above 75 ft/lbs though as that does become unpleasant to fire. I doubt it will be as unpleasant as the 300 RUM, or 450 Ackley.

Very nice and interesting chambering. Not sure I'd trust a Redfield on it though.

The Redfield still belongs to my buddy I told him I didn't want it, haven't removed it yet.
I'll have to see what I got in my magic scope drawer that would suit this rifle and caliber........maybe a 3-9 Diavari.......3.5-10 Diavri........

Those velocities are about 200fps faster than a .375 RUM, in a smaller case. Interesting

Don't know where you get your ballistics from but my .375 H+H clocks 2925 from a 24" bbl with 270 gn TSX through an Oehler 35P. This same load of RL 15 was used in Zambia in 50 deg C heat with no issues what-so-ever. It is not over loaded or running extreme pressures. Have you personally loaded for and chrono'd a 375 RUM?
Why not? (Ted) used to have a 24" 375 Wby and consistently got 3100 fps from 270 gn bullets. My son just rechrono'd his 375 Ruger at 3200 with 260 gn AB in a 24" barrel.
Like I said before this is heresay and I will check loads this weekend and will photo the chrono tape for all to see. I do not personally know what it will do, just telling you what the previous owner told me. I've also known the previous owner for 30 years and he's not a liar. I think "Why Not?"(Ted) has actually seen this rifle chronograph at these velocities but I'm not positive. I do know that he told me the same thing, 3100 with 270s.

I have watched this rifle project from the very beginning when we just talked about it. Have been at the range and seen it shoot several times. The velocities are legit, and the accuracy is not at all an exaggeration.

Another Bevan C King barrel installed on a fine action by the man himself. Stay tuned.....Doug will be posting some pretty amazing stuff after this weekend! :)
