Bought new rifle, Old Sako AV in 9.3 X 300 WM - 2967 FPS with 286 NPs

Interesting round and rifle, I like it. Dump the millets though.

I have never owned or used a set of Millets previously, are they not good? This is the second post indicating these aren't good for this application. I have Sako rings, but found them wanting on a heavy recoiling rifle in the past (375).

Don't know where you get your ballistics from but my .375 H+H clocks 2925 from a 24" bbl with 270 gn TSX through an Oehler 35P. This same load of RL 15 was used in Zambia in 50 deg C heat with no issues what-so-ever. It is not over loaded or running extreme pressures. Have you personally loaded for and chrono'd a 375 RUM?
Why not? (Ted) used to have a 24" 375 Wby and consistently got 3100 fps from 270 gn bullets. My son just rechrono'd his 375 Ruger at 3200 with 260 gn AB in a 24" barrel.
Like I said before this is heresay and I will check loads this weekend and will photo the chrono tape for all to see. I do not personally know what it will do, just telling you what the previous owner told me. I've also known the previous owner for 30 years and he's not a liar. I think "Why Not?"(Ted) has actually seen this rifle chronograph at these velocities but I'm not positive. I do know that he told me the same thing, 3100 with 270s.

Most reloading data from manuals list the 375 RUM with a 270gr bullet at about 3000 fps and 300gr bullets at about 2900 fps. These loads are actually pressure tested at about 63000 64000 PSI. The smaller case of the 300 WM is generating higher velocities than the RUM case.

Be interesting to use actual pressure testing equipment to check those loads. Lots of custom rifles with built with tighter tolerances dont' show pressure signs as readily.

Not trying to sling crap either but the Millets gotta go or the scope will.
And those velocities likely did go over the chrony that I believe. I also believe they did it at 70k+ psi. If the bolt isnt stiff that doesnt mean much, especially on a belted case.
Anyway, i want more pics at the range.

If you plan on not using the Millet rings, I suggest buying the Leupold Sako ring mounts. They are worth the money, and easier to work with than the Millet, and look nicer than the factory rings.

Leupold makes them in three finishes including gloss bright blue if you want to match it with the gun's finish, but most stores will carry the matt finish in stock, and you'll need to order the others on line.

I'm reading your mind and have already ordered 2 sets this am from WSS and they actually had them in stock, halleluia !!!! I also ordered a Vari X 3 in 2.5-8 should be a good combo (which they also had in stock) !!!!!!

It'll be a sweet hunting rifle when you have it all done.

sounds like a nice chambering.I've had 2 9.3x64's and a 35/300 win , neither would come anywhere near those velosities.it should make a great big game stopper

You can get those velocities if you load well past the PSI that the cartridges are rated for. :p

But of course, as I ALWAYS do............That's what I love about wildcats, there are no SAAMI pressure ratings, only DOUGIE pressure ratings

I loaded up a bunch of 270s tonight starting below my buddies starter loads and working up, so next range trip I'll take chrono AND camera and we'll see what's up.
Removed my buddy's Redfield and put a Leupold 3-9 in it's place.

hah, I will have to make decision. to watch Olympics or watch Doug's wildcats show.

both are on this Friday.

Na you're good for the olympics, friday I'm loading up for our gunshow on sat. Probably won't get to range till sun, will have a bunch though to run through so I'll post either Sun night or Mon.
Oh ya, I got to take a couple guys sheep searching/spotting with the plane sometime this weekend as well, 5 days till opening of hunting season.
