You are just like your cousins down my way, they always have to find things out the hard way.:p
And there is nothing whatsoever wrong with a 270 weatherby. If it's not fast enough for you there was a fella with a 6.5 RUM for sale the other day.

On first note, you'll have to be more specific as I have something like 40 or 50 1st cousins about the same amount or more 1st once removed, and who knows from there.

Nothing wrong with the 270 Wby for DEER, but we have no deer. In my opinion both the 264 win and 7mm rem are superior leaving no gap needing filling. JMHO:D

You where here for D.R. s funeral I met you at the hall, Craig introduced us.Mind you, you probably met a ton of people that day.

My apologies, however RR isn't a lot to go on. Yes I was at Uncle Doug's funeral in Plenty. I figured I owed him that as he was the only Uncle/Aunt to ever come and see me in the Yukon. Ya Craig finally stood up and introduced me to the crowd, as I guess everyone was asking who the cowboy in black was. You are entirely correct that I have almost no recollection of all who were there that day.
Anyway you were obviously referring to my cousins Richards, Craig can be a pigheaded sum#####, and Donny, well is Donny, what can I say. I went to school with Donny in grade 8 and it was an experience. Uncle Doug was one of my favorite uncles, I respected him greatly.
I'm sorry I do not recall meeting you, I'm surprized you remember meeting me.

As well you should, Ted, and you're old enough to know better!:p

Should have kept my first Marlin XL7 270 Win!

Have another one however, that shoots almost as well.

Doug, you have only been here two times that I know of....that does not qualify for an introduction to the Whitehorse Doug! :p

Ted

At least three different years and with several visits to WH a couple of them! Next visit probably not until 2014 though......

Gentlemen; my delving into the world of external ballistics has absolutely nothing to do with terminal ballistics.
Gatehouse and Bearkilr, an animal can only be dead once and I agree that any NA animal will succum to a 30-06. This has nothing to do with what I do with rifles and cartridges. My quest is to wring out the utmost from any cartridge, is it necessary, of course not. It is my hobby and my interest, no different than racing cars. Is a 250 MPH car necessary to fetch groceries, no, but if you want to do an 8 sec 1/4 mile it is. Is an 8 sec 1/4 mile necessary, of course not, but the quest is, in order to further the sport and the knowledge.
Reloading is no different, with all the new powders and projectiles the sky is the limit. This is what I do for fun and entertainment, I used to race cars, bungi jump, skydive, rodeo, womanize, hunt dangerous game with bows, fly light aircraft in unflyable weather, drink too much and fight. Now I load the sh!t out of rifles to see what they are capable of. It has nothing to do with hunting, and is solely for my own entertainment and knowledge of exterior ballistics. I will share the results with the people here who are interested, and those who disagree with my quest are free to not partake in my dissertation.

I have been following this thread with interest and have to say this is one of the best answers on CGN... made me smile.

I too am waiting to see what kind of loads are required to launch a 270 gr bullet at 3100 fps out of a .300 Win Mag case. When I first read that claim, I was skeptical and still am to a degree. It's only through the endorsement of the data by a few well respected members that I am willing to wait and see.

In the meantime, consider this.

I am having no problem getting in excess of 2800 fps out of my FN .375 Ruger with it's 21" barrel. C-fbmi's new rifle has a 26" barrel. When I shortened my 9.3x62 barrel, I lost about 40 fps/inch so if we use that number and apply it to the 5" increase in barrel length, we get an increase of around 200 fps or 3000 fps total. Add a little extra powder and 3100 fps in possible.

Now granted, the .375 case has more capacity than the 9.3/300 WM case and the basal area of the .375 bullet is larger than that of a 9.3 bullet. Both of these factors should give the edge to the .375. This is easily compensated for by adding more powder.

Hmm. I wonder how much work it would take to convert my 62 to a 9.3/375Ruger.

I'm not skeptical at all. I'm certain that you can launch a 270gr bullet form a 300WM case at 3100fps. All it requires is putting enough powder into the case to make pressure skyrocket. :)

Makes you wonder, when buying off the EE, what you are really buying....

Quality rifle or time-bomb...

You needn't fear as I almost never sell a gun, and I've never sold one on EE. You also have to keep in mind I'm not playing with pre-war Mod 70s or 98s.
I can also tell you that with modern actions ANYTHING you can do within the limitations of the brass case, causes absolutely no damage to the frearm.
You boys really need to bring your thinking into the 21st century of metalurgy.

You know just enough to be dangerous.

You have absolutely no way of knowing what I do, and do not know. You have no idea of my education or experience in gunsmithing and metalurgy which makes your comment nothing but a "cheap shot", an opinion without basis.
What is considered dangerous by those having a fragile constitution and the faint of heart, is often considered commonplace by the more sturdy and adventurous in society.
