Bought S&W K 17

Your S&W 17 should be in the RCMP book, as they list all serial numbers of the guns used by the vintage mounties! My friend is a horseman and lent me his book last time I was looking for some serial number range for S&W. Extraction is hard also in my 17-3, cheers Dale Z!

Well, I cleaned it last night after I brought it home from the store. The cartrages loaded normal, it wasn't tight or anything. As far as I can tell the extractor rod is fine.

The very first six rounds I shot, the caseings were already hard to get out. Very consistent throughout the 100 or so rounds I've fired.

What ammo? I shoot the cheap stuff. Fed value packs and 333/555 Win.

Sounds like the brass is over expanding and clinging to the cylinder. An over bore cylinder perhaps?

Yeah, this revolver definitely shoots better then I ever will :)

One thing tho.....it was Extremely hard to extract the spent casings out of the cylinders. I really had to push very, very hard on the rod. Is that normal with a .22 wheel?

This is a well known issue and discussed on the S&W Forum. The easiest fix is to try many different ammo makes. I had the same problem with my M17 no dash and after lots of trial found the Federal Champion bulk 34 gr. cheepest was the solution, no more problems! Also being copper clad there is less ledding arround the forcing cone.

My own 17 gums up from Blazer as well. But no where near as fast as you're seeing. I get about 5 to 6 cylinders before I have to bump the ejector firmly.

If you can find it try some CCI Standard Velocity. It seems to be made to slightly more accurate tolerances. The Blazer, and some other bulk stuff I checked, tends to be a half thou or more "fat" even out of the box. The CCI SV and Fiocchi SV I checked was spot on size from the SAMMI drawings.

The bulk blazers(525) have more wax on them than the 500 individual boxes, when u have them side by side u can actualy feel the gunk so your cylinders will get messy.

Tried some more ammo today:
Cci stingers shot and extracted good, no issues. A bit too expensive for me.
Federal 40 gr lead nosed shot and extracted good too.
Remington yellow jacket shoot well but again very hard to extract and super dirty.
I still want to try some cheap Winchester and AE.

Shot Federal today, bulk blue box and ae without any extraction problems. Then just to confirm I loaded 6 rds of CCI Blazer. It fired no problem but I had a hard time extracting the spent casings. Found the ammo that works! Also, at the same time I ran some of the federal through my GSG and it ate it np. Up till today only Blazer would cycled properly. So thats another good news, I guess its finally broken in.
