Bought Sight Unseen....

OP, I know how you feel. This past winter (2013) I found this Weatherby Mark V chambered in the 224 Weatherby. The gun was unfired and absolutely mint condition.......french walnut, 26 inch semi-heavy barrel. I got it for $1,300.00 and in the states most go for over $3,000.00, and that is for a used one.

I sell my stuff for fire saleprices all the time I'm a mono maniac so it depends what intense hobby I'm doing at the time. It's kind of fun having a bidding war in 10 minutes of posting :p once I sold a ruger m77 for 200 because that's what I paid and it was insane, but you got a damn good deal. that's a sweet hunting rig why not you could use it for a boat padle at that price and still not feel ripped off l.

I emailed the serial number to Remington and they replied that it was manufactured in May of 1978. I just thought that was kind if cool, rifle is 35 years old.

Then they used all the letters of the alphabet starting at A in 1980, 2005 being Z

Q is listed twice in that table, the other year being 1996 which threw me a bit. I read somewhere you could email them and they would reply so I figured it was worth a shot. I would have guessed it is the 1996 model, apparently not. I don't know enough about these guns to know if there are any subtle physical differences to tell whether the Q is a '78 or '96.

I like all the stories as well, thanks for sharing.

Let me guess. You got the rifle from your Dad.
Damn, I always have to give the sons, grandsons and granddaughter firearms for free!

Ain't THAT the truth. "Dad....I know the perfect B'day, Christmas, or grad gift - my 30-06 BAR, '43 K98, 243 Weatherby, CZ .22, and BSA Mk2 303. Now I got daughter into Cowboy action...."Daddy...can I have your rifle?" EEEP!
