I have been bow hunting now a few years and sometimes reference to it on here in posts.

I never ever knew this , but it seems that bow hunters are perceived as arrogant and with holier than thou attitudes.

Do others see this? I never knew there was a dis-like for people that bow hunted. Is it an US vs THEM thing with rifle hunters and bow hunters.I didn't ever see this before until I joined this site.Interesting indeed.

FYI - started bow hunting so I could get 2 extra months of hunting in!!! Good idea I figured.

I haven't noticed that about bow hunters. I can't recall noticing anyone else saying it about bow hunters, either.

(Maybe because I'm too arrogant and self-absorbed to notice other people's attitudes? )

I have talked to a few bow hunters that think because they get a deer that way they must be much better hunters. To each their own, I've shot deer I could have harvested with a bow, but I've also shot them where a bow couldn't:evil:. To me all a bow hunter has over a rifle hunter is more patience:)

As Red says "were all together in this" fight to maintain our right to own weapons & hunt!

There are lots of people that have the belief that anyone that uses a different hunting method then themselves is not a real hunter, is a borderline poacher, is un-ethical, or is a Rambo wannabe. I have met some bowhunters that turn their noses up at my use of a rifle, claiming that their primative methods are superior (Note a modern compound bow with fiberoptic sights and a range finder is not primative, if you hunt with a traditional longbow or recurve without sights or a range finder thats primatve). If you are following the law and having fun putting meat on the table thats all that really matters.

Some fly fisherman think they can walk on water in the summer as well.People are people ,most are just broadening their horizons or taking advantage of extended hunting opportunities..............Harold

Some might have that attitude, but I haven't personally witnessed it.

I gun hunt and bow hunt. Most of my hunting colleauges are the same. When the gun season is over, the bow season isn't which gives us the added timeline.

I will admit, there IS a different feeling when carrying a bow as opposed to a gun, but my attitude doesn't differ from one to another.

Bottom line, whether you use a gun or bow....either of those tools are only good if you can present yourself an opportunity to use them...and then be proficient enough to do so effectively.

Happy Hunting ;)

See that attitude on some American archery forums. Does it really matter how you harvest an animal? As long as it's legal and you enjoy the way you're hunting, don't worry what others think.

I bow hunt and rifle hunt. Thoroughly enjoy both. So do the people I hang with. No story here.... move along....

Most people who bowhunt are just like all other hunters.

Sure there are SOME bowhunters who think they are better then gun hunters, just like there are SOME flyfishermen who think they are better then spinning rod fishermen.

I'm a rifle hunter, but recently I started target practicing with my compound bow for next hunting season. I wanted to learn archery just to learn a different skill, broaden the horizons.
If there is an arrogance, it is the hunter, not the method.
However, you don't often hear of bow hunters doing "sound shots"

I got to know a guy that only Bow Hunts and we share the rights to hunt on the same Farm. I hunt turkey on the farm with a shotgun and he uses a Bow. He told me he thinks using a shotgun is murder.

I told him I've heard of lots of Bow hunters just wounding a turkey that likely ended up dying in the bush later, but I've never just wounded one with my shotgun. They always die quickly. Call it murder if you like. :)

.....but ask a compound hunter about crossbows and watch the shoulder chips develop.......:stirthepot2:

I've heard some of this... you know the old preverbial " a crossbow is a girls weapon" ... but give me a chance at either bow or gun and I will be happy and so are most of my friends ...
