In the last little bit I have seen a few hunts on "WildTV" about grouse hunting with a bow.
I had a quick look on YouTube. Found a bunch more.
None of the shots seam to kill them right away.
The guys seem to loose lots of arrows and usually try to find the Grouse .

I usually take my .410 with me. some times the .22. From the videos I have seen. my Sling Shot was more effective on the 2 grouse I hit with it.

What are your thoughts on this.

Works fine for me. I use G5 SGH's and the wire version small game heads. They are usually pretty dead when I walk up. Like anything, depends on the shooters skill. They are fairly small targets as well!

I always carry one of my more beat up arrows tipped with a muzzy game head to stick chickens with:

I've shot plenty of grouse with my bow. I carry a "judo" tipped arrow, and usually try to hit the head/neck. Drops them in their tracks, or you miss to try again another day.
I have never tried them from the air with the bow.

I don't think Manitoba allows game bird huntiong with bows and probably some other provinces as well
upland game it is OK in Manitoba:

BOWS
Bows may be used during the upland game bird, wild turkey or
migratory game bird seasons. A bowhunter hunting wild turkey
must not be in possession of a long bow or recurved bow requiring
less than 18.1 kg (40 lbs.) draw weight at 71 cm (28 in.) draw; or a
compound bow set at less than 18.1 kg (40 lbs.) peak draw weight;
or an arrow using a broadhead point less than 2.2 cm (7/8 in.) in width.

I use the g5 small game heads for small game. So far just shot gophers with my bow. Lost a few arrows with field tips though.

These just bounce off the ground though so no arrows lost since.

With a 100 gr Judo point they go down fast, you ear a BIG pock !!! on impact.
I have to go easy on the yardage because they are easy to miss or hurt.

If you want to be sporting you'd get them to flush first!! LOL

Got a great solution for shooting grouse with a bow works great .
use rubber blunt head , shoot about 6 inches in front of grouse hit the dirt
you will do two things . Slow down the arrow bounce off ground hits grouse stuns them hard .
if your not a perfect shot the rocks off the ground from the bounce will take him out .
used this technic for years got so good at it I could take out a hole covey .....

cheers
