Would like to get my 8 year old daughter into archery. She has never shot before. She wants to join the club with me this year. What type of bow should I start her on? I would also deeply appreciate any recomandations, suggestions, advice and/or types you could provide. Thanks fellas!

Dave.

To bad your not in the niagara area. There is a great place in Beamsville. The guy would set you and your daughter up no problems

Bowtech, they've got an awesome little bow that can be adjusted down for her to shoot, and up enough for her to hunt with when she's old enough...if she gets interested in that. There's probably a lot of other brands that make similar bows, but the Bowtech one really impressed me. One of my buddies got one for his boy. Its a nice piece of equipment.

I got my son a Parker Challeger a few years ago, it's a great little bow. Parker offers a deal where they will upgrade the limbs, sting and cables when the youngster starts to grow. For a very reasonable price. I didn't do that however because as soon as my son outgrew it my daughter picked it up.

I'd start her on an inexpensive recurve. At 8 years old, fickleness may be your biggest concern. At 8, my daughter loved it and then, oops...nevermind.

In my eyes there is only one choice, the mini-genesis.
My 5 year old nephew has one, and loves to shoot it. The only change my brother made was to install a containment rest (whisker biscuit) to make it more user friendly for the little guy. Pull weight is 6-12lbs, and draw length 14-25" and doesnt need any parts/upgrades to cover that huge change in draw length. If you want a slightly bigger bow the original genesis: 10-20lbs 15-30" draw. genesisbow.com

The only thing I can suggest is to make sure she's well armored against bowstring burns, and fletching burns. Kids hurt easy, and that would be a big turn off.
I hope she enjoys it, and will soon be in the field with the old man.

Crappy Tire sells inexpensive, low draw weight, fibreglass bows and arrows. About $50 or so. I think they come with an arm guard. A couple of bow lengths too as I recall. I seem to recall seeing both recurves and compounds.
"...Kids hurt easy..." And it's not just the little kids. Big kids have been known to be slightly hurt from string and fletch burns too. No arrow rest and an incorrect stance does it.

Agree,

Whats cool today, is cold tommorrow. My son is 8, and he can't even keep interested in any particular toy for more than 24 hrs, let alone something that would require supervision.
