well an update..its a bear brand....with lots of arrows/gloves// case/and a ton of fancy attachments..will forward other details as i get them..i just requested a few pics;)

If its an adult sized bow, the draw length and weight will likely be to big for a 9yr old. Your best bet may be to take him and the bow to a good bow shop to see if it can be adjusted to suit him (some bows are adjustable for draw length and weight, some are not). You may need to trade this one in on a youth sized bow, depending on what exactly he bought and how big he is.

i would not dare to even say to trade it in.. i told him if he really want to go this route......i,ll buy him a smaller version for now..;) he is like any other gun nutz here with a new toy:dancingbanana:

but thanks for the tip,s guys..keep them coming..i cant wait to see his first posting here in a few years:dancingbanana:

Take him to a bowshop anyway. He might hurt himself without proper instruction. I'm not sure if it's still there, but there used to be a great bow shop in Brampton with an indoor range.

The arrows must be the right length for him. As is the draw length of the bow and the draw weight. The right size arm guard is especially important too. Even a very light target bow string can whip his forearm. And that hurts. Trust me.

If he does need a smaller version, you could always borrow the one he has now and practice along with him.

Sunray isn't kidding about the armguard. Also VERY IMPORTANT, make sure he does not dry fire the bow (draw and release it without an arrow). This could hurt him and the bow.

You do know that bow season for deer starts Oct 1st and ends Dec 31st for most of southern Ontario ( with one week off for shotgun and 1 week off for muzzleloader). With the seasons the way they are, I don't even bother with the controlled hunts, I have way better odds of filling my tags with my crossbow.

Remove the space from the ht tp and you will find all the info you ever wanted for bows archery and bowhunting. Good luck, oh and Mutantville is like OT here. :dancingbanana:

The very best in archery equipment for a young person is a longbow/recurve . No worries about matching the draw length to a growing boy or girl. Important things to look at are , a good glove that will not come off , and arm protection , a sting from the string will promote bad form.
Its a great sport , target shooting indoors during winter, and field archery in summer. Great stuff.
My 11 year old at the time could hit running deer targets so well it was spooky, and teens with compound bows were hit miss on the same target , at the same range. Its a trained hand eye thing, not unlike a slingshot. :)

holy crap.....ive neaver looked into bow hunting equipment before.... looks like i have to find a second job to afford this new addiction..
i was at bass pro the other day to pic up some last minute goodies before we head out for the moose hunt...i had to check out the bow stuff...what a shocker on the price of that stuff:eek:

Do you really want to teach him to STAB an animal to death.I could never get excited about bow hunting. I like my game to DROP WHERE ITS HIT!!!WE found adoe that had an arrow broken off in her hip with a huge festering wound that was gangrenous and we put her out of her misery and left her for fox food.Since then I've never liked the idea of long range stabbing.JITC

you are joking ?right?what you are saying is no better then a misplaced gun shot wound...
i know im a green horn at this... but im not green:rolleyes:

My bow, was a 75 lb compound, I could turn it down to 45 Lbs. That's still legal for deer in Ontario.
Check out the bow, Most are adjustable to some degree.
Best to start him of at a lower pull anyway, until he develops the muscles. You can damage your rotator cuff pretty easily by pulling too heavy a wieght. Don't let him con you that he can handle the full weight.
I never mastered mine. I was always inconsistent. Switched to crossbow.
With the crossbow, you can only shoot one arrow at each target. Because it's damned expensive to hit arrows Robin hood style, and the crossbow is so accurate, that you definately will.

ya the bow looks a little big on him...looks i ,ll have to keep it for myself;) any ways i hope this pic is not to big..

Looks like a late 70's Browning . Very nice bow. Looks like he wants to be a leftie, gonna have to fix that....
As for shooting deer with a bent stick , nothing works more for me. I get so worked up, its very much fun , way cool , whatever way you slice it:) . Now you gotta be practiced to make it work. That is , knowing range in our mind, does not have to be what you say it is, as long as thats where the arrow goes.Stump shooting, field practice, and lots of it.
Nothing beats a buck that wanders in on that hard pack snow, making enough noise to shake you out of your perch. And you see that arrow vanish behind the deers front leg. The heart rate is now at max, you let it slow a bit prior to checking the arrow , and blood trail. In most cases its a short walk to your trophy.
After more than 20 buck deer, 9 to 12 point , killed with recurve , longbow, selfbow, the first is just like the last , all great (max heart rate) hunting fun.
Taking a nice doe , is just like killing a big buck with a bow and arrow. Make your own arrows for extra fun. :)
