Bow Season At Last

Well, this morning was kind to me..........It was a cool morning with a brisk wind and a bit of rain, but you can't shoot a deer from your house (at least, not where I live ), so I was out.

Long story short, around 8:00 I had two does MOST interested in what I was. They were downwind of me, scenting me out and looking straight at me, a bit tough considering that was about fifteen yards. But the one decided that I was not anything to worry about, turned and showed me her side and I raised the bow and shot. Double-lung blow-through, I hit her at about 13 yards and she died about 20 yards from my stand. No tracking needed. :D

So she is hanging with Burt's buck and since it is still fairly warm here we will be butchering tomorrow. :dancingbanana:

Yes there are pics on Burt's camera, coming soon to a thread near you.........:p

Good job Doug, 2 more to go...:)

What bow set-up are you using??

BTW, how did you end up with 2 bow tags? Different WMU's?

back to blargon.............

Excalibur Exocet, Easton XX75 2219s, 125 gr Thunderheads. So I am shooting quite a heavy bolt, speed is just about 300 fps, but they do seem to flatten the deer.

Yes, three tags for three WMUs.

let's try this............

Very nice Doug!!!!

as for me I saw a doe and a spike buck yesterday night and two does and a fawn today.....no anterless tag.......and holding out for a larger buck......so saturday is the next day in the field so hopefully its more eventfull...although watching the fawn bound around while momma ate apples was pretty cool and I didnt even care there was no shooter in the field.

Great job!! they will be tasty.

As for all the fawn comments, I usually let them pass,( though I have no problem with anyone taking one) I find after hauling it out of the woods, then field dressing and butchering, its a lot of work for a very little amount venison.

In my area there are many does so I'd rather take a bigger one, not to mention, people where I go register the deer always chuckle when they look in someone trunk and see a little fawn.

Deer liver last night from Burt's buck, roast venison with potatoes and gravy tonight from my doe. YUM YUM!!!! :dancingbanana:

Doug

PS) And a bedtime snack of cold roast venison sandwich with fresh ground pepper and a bit of salt! :D

I'm green with envy!!

I spent yesterday night stalking a nice little 6point buck he would be about 180lbs but I could not get a shot for the life of me. I was crawling in the dirt with my crossbow he didnt know I was there but every time I got close to 60yds he would walk then stop then I would crawl more get to 60yds and he would walk some more. After crawling around the fields for an hour it was to dark and it was time to go home.

This morning was dead not a single deer I herd some faint grunts so I grunted back but nothing came in. Going back out Tomorrow hope I have some more luck this time...

I have a big pot of venison barley soup on the stove for lunch, and some fresh buns.

God, I love deer! :D

Saw a spikehorn this morning, wayyyy too far for a bow shot, but nice to see nonetheless. Can't go this afternoon, need to take my youngest son to his hockey game.

Doug

Yes in fact they ARE upside down if you vote Liberal or NDP. But if you vote CPC and know which way is up, then the deer are hung properly. :D

And as we right-minded people all know, a properly hung deer is a TASTY deer! :dancingbanana:

Doug

JYC is correct it's hung upside down Doug.
That's OK, it's probably because you can't tie a regular knot in a rope :D

As you can see here, even my son knows the correct way to hang a deer :slap:
