Bowhunting geese -- tips?

Just an update: I've gone out for geese a couple times with the bow now. I've made it to within 30ish yards, almost had a shot yesterday on a spot-and-stalk but of all things, a seagull busted me and put an end to it. I definitely had a shot, but was trying to take a more ethical shot.

Went back out today and got soaked from the knees down wading a creek to get into position. Set up a ground blind, and after waiting a couple hours, had to leave to get back to work, with no geese showing. A couple ducks flew by but busted me before I got the blind up.

I do have a wicked spot, right on the X, but I think the locals might put the run to me, even though it's perfectly legal.
 
If you are shooting them on the ground anyways, why the need for the bow? If you are shooting towards the ground, then wouldn't that limit the range your pellets could travel with a shotgun?
 
Use the turkey hunting "Guillotine" blades that decap the bird if you're ground swatting them..............Harold
 
well living in Alberta I didn't think it was legal

I guess it is in other provinces.

I would still opt for a shotgun and adjust my shooting position to remove the houses from the fall of shot
 
I have never heard of, or seen anyone bow hunting geese before. Keep us posted if you get any. It sounds interesting.

This caught my eye....... you will never "clean out" a spot using a bow, and likely wont clean one out with a shotgun either...... you are hunting migratory birds, so the geese you see today won't be the ones you see tomorrow......
 
It's legal under the migratory bird act. The only way it would not be is if the provincial regulations prohibited using a longbow. The legal definition of a longbow includes a compound bow.
 
These are a resident population. I have hunted the same flock elsewhere and you can indeed scare them off semi permanently after you kill a bunch.

I'm not deluded enough to think I can kill 300 geese with a bow.

Seen a few posts on Instagram of our southern friends bowhunting geese recently. Full setup of decoy spreads and bail blind to boot. As someone has already said.. alot of effort for little reward
