I wanted to see some pics of the cannons and mortars from the Athabasca shoot(I wasn't there). I thought I'd show off mine, and maybe get some others to chime in. It is a over and under 10 pin bowling ball on the bottom with concrete filled beer can tube on top! garanteed to put a smile on your face when it goes off

So the beer can is a coax spotter for the bowling ball, you adjust velocity to get an approximate ballistic match. I see how that would save powder!

That would be cool!, actually I built the beer can launcher first, then the "bigger, louder, cooler" idea started getting thrown around. After the bowling ball launcher got built , the beer can unit was in the way. Someone said "might as well mount it on top of the big guy" so it was done!

I look forward to seeing the underbarrel concrete-filled garbage can launcher!

That's really cool... Have you shot them yet? What's the range? How much powder do you use? I must admit, the bowling ball one looks a little scary to me: like, the barrel looks THIN for that big caliber, you know? :)

The one that I saw fired the guy was using a shot gun shell as a measure for the black powder . Under a 1/4 measure to get ranged in than more for distance . Couldn't tell ya what he had it set for an angle. I have seen others and the tube lengths were all different , gas cylinders seem to work the best ball hitch and a truck rim for a base bumpers jacks for legs with a ratchet strap between them . Don't for get an old mop to swab out the barrel between shots ( to make shure that there are no embers to Ignite the poweder prematurely) a big help is an eyelet screw in the ball to help with inserting the ball .:cheers:

We need u there. Now u have to build a cannon, when I get pics of the shoot I will post here. It got a little drunk out and I fuped with my camera but son in law got good ones. Got to get him to send me some.

Yes, I have shot both barrels lots of times. Using one 35mm film canister(about 450grs weighed) of 1F powder, the beer can will go 400ish meters. The bowling ball will go 300ish with the same charge. Launched at a 45 degree angle.
The bowling ball tube is a salvaged nitrogen cylinder, I would say any weak point would be the flange welded on the bottom. That being said we have proofed it with more than the usual charge.
