does anyone still shoot pins in canada? used to shoot them at my club in the 80's. was a heck of a lot of fun in those days but the cfo has made it almost imposible now. just wondering if any club still shoots em.

Algoma Rod and Gun Club says they do. Suspect pin shooting died off due to finding pins getting difficult. Pity, too. Pin shooting is great fun.

So why would it be illegal to have a bowling pin shoot ??

Bullets can imact the pin in such a way that the skin of the pin redirects the bullet back in an uprange direction.

Welcome to CFO logic... (Same as no cross lane firing because bullets could collide in mid air causing unsafe ricochets)

Galt has a plethora of Bowling Pins. We use them with 12ga Slugs in our multigun.

What about bowling pin shaped steel plate targets that you shoot off stands similar to how they shoot metallic sihouette events? You still get to see stuff fall over but now it goes CLANG! at the same time. Sounds like a win-win to me! :D

main challange to shooting pins was to hit then square as you had to knock them off the table not just tip them over. thherefore a little more accurate shooting and full power loads were kinda mandatory. was very fun with shotguns.
kinda missing those days

I'd like to know where the CFO got his degree in physics...

I respectfully submit that the CFO's reasoning in regards to banning pins and unshrouded steel is based on flawed assumptions, bulls**t and junk science.

Anywhere I've shot othet than Ont. where steel is used.. It's never shrouded and noone gets killed. Hell... Rounds don't even have enough juice left to leave the shooting bay to hurt anyone

Even FA... noone got killed by Rick O'Shea.

I shoot them all the time with my pistols and 858.They take quite a beating before they are of no use except this past weekend my buddy brought out his customized short barelled Ruger 454 casull.It totaly obliterated them:D

Now, I'm no physicsologist, but doesn't that defy at least two of that Newton fellow's ideas?

Memory from 2006 at HAHA: launching pins 30 feet past the table with a .50 Beowulf AR.

<sigh>

IF its the AR at HAHA i think it is, it's 50 action express, not beowulf. But it did loft pins nicely! Never seen pins GAIN altitude and seem to leap off the table quite that way, even with shotgun slugs.w:h:

The best sport of pins was the desperate attempts to push one of the spinners off the table. A good clean hit amidships popped 'em off fine, but tip one over, and sometimes get it spinning, and they were the Hobb's own to clear the table. Too much fun. Clearly, folks had to quit pins, and take up some discipline wheere you could gripe and fight more and shoot less.
