Bowning Xbolt

I've got the x bolt in 7mm08. Shot an elk with it a month ago. Beautiful rifle and very accurate. Expect groups within an inch at a 100 with winchester, remmington and hornady factory ammo. Gun is nice and light, balances well and the trigger is amazing. It is quite an improvement over the a bolt. I would highly recommend it. I think the 7mm08 is a great cartridge to begin with.

The only complaint I have seen/heard of is the bolt stop is quite small and has very little engagement and when slamming the bolt to the rear the surfaces of the bolt and stop become battered easily and the bolt comes right out. I told the customer to return it to Browning for warranty servicing.

Thanks a bunch for the info. I am looking at on ein a 270 wsm. Thinking this will be my next rifle in the stainless stalker.

Good to hear about the X-bolt, I was unsure about the plastic clip, since it seems a plastic one just doesn't feed like a metal one. I might pick up a medallion in .280 rem, I really want a .280 AI but can't seem to find anyone chambering one. What kind of work would it take to make a .280 rem into .280 AI? Anyone seen what the X-bolt medallion stock looks like?

Just received mine on Tuesday. X-bolt Stainless Synthetic in 280 Rem.

I have lapped the rings and mounted my scope, but have yet to shoot it.

Must say I can usually find something I don't like about a firearm right away, but I can't say anything bad or even mediocre about this one, very pleased. It marks everything on my check list.

Now hopefully it will shoot well and and I will have a keeper.

Just finished doing my initial cleaning on my new X-bolt stainless stalker in 300 WSM. Can't wait to shoot it, but didn't remember to pick up mounts and rings for it.
Are the mounts hard to find and or expensive since there are 4 holes instead of 2?

A gunsmith will just use a finishing reamer to chamber the Ackley round. It's not a big job, and I imagine quite a few 'smiths will have this reamer. Fireform brass by firing .280 Remington ammo in the Ackley-ized rifle. I've used a .280 for years, and frankly, I never had a huge urge for the Ackley; the plain-vanilla job works fine for me. But it does have a certain cool factor.
The least expensive dies in this chambering are Lee, at about $40.00 US.

Yeah a .280 rem. would be nice, something different that not everyone has, but the .280 AI does have the cool factor. I found some rifles that chamber the .280 AI but they are kind of custom models with big price tags and beautiful wood stocks... not practical for hunting.
