My boss, who is an avid hunter, wanted to by a bow for hunting turkey. His question is can you by one from the states & get it shipped to Canada & what would be good multi purpose bow for a beginner??

No you can't ship from the states, at least xbows you can't. Get an Excalibur Phoenix. You'll love it!

Bought a bow off E-Bay 2yrs ago, and they shipped it no prob from MICH. Had to pay duty COD about $40 bucks but no prob..

The Phoenix is an excellent choice ( and Excalibur is Canadian!) its pretty big compared to compound X-bows. But alot less moving parts to break IMO.

I tried turkey with my compound bow but got busted every time!(too much movement, or maybe I just suck!) but connected the first try with a X-bow. Just like using a shotgun, but a lot quieter!:p The other birds didn't scatter until I got up to get my bird!

GOOD LUCK!

I know you can't ship pistol crossbows from the states to Canada, when did the regular crossbows become evil?

They aren't even a registered weapon in Canada.

Are we talking X-bows or compounds? Either way, either can be purchased(except for a pistol x-bow) right here in our own country.Being in T.O. you have a multitude of sporting good stores, yes?
My choice would be to stick with a compound bow,
IMO.

I've talked to a couple of guys who have had problems using a compound for turkey hunting. Unless you are using a tent type blind its pretty hard to draw without being seen.

You can ship a Compound bow from United States to Canada with no problems. Declare a value, pay the GST and any duties if it doesnt fall under NAFTA. Other than the shippin charges, thats about it.
As for good bows to look at: Hoyt, Matthews, Jennings, Fred Bear, PSE, APA, etc, etc

Stay with a larger bow company, the smaller ones have a problem with disappearing over time. Can't go wrong with a Matthews or PSE, and go with a compound bow.

Hey Kev, Turkeys have excellent eyesight and will most likley bust you up high. Its not to say it can't be done, but generally try and locate a gobbler. Settle in with your back against a tree, set up the way you think he will come, and try to call him in. Most of all don't F*@#IN' move..IMHO this works for me....(sometimes:redface: )

This is why x-bows tend to be a little easier for a beginner...
